Yu Yu Hakusho: Hiei, Kuwabara Kazuma, Urameshi Yusuke, and Kurama

yu yu hakusho cosplay - hiei, kuwabara kazuma, urameshi yusuke, and kurama by aira

After Yusuke managed to rescue Yukina from Toguro, he was invited to participate in the "Dark Tournament"; an event organized by corrupt humans with too much time and money in their hands. Teams of demons, and occasionally humans, fight each other in order to fulfill one wish, whatever that may be. Yusuke accepted the invitation along with Kuwabara Kazuma, Kurama, Hiei, and a disguised Genkai to form Team Urameshi.

Awesome cosplay is just awesome! All I know about this photo is that Aira is cosplaying Kurama. As for her other team members, your guess is as good as mine. Thanks again to Miguel for sending this in!

We survived! The genuine, accept no substitutes BastardCast crushed the Christmapocalypse and this week we’re back to talk about an Amazing Spider-Man, an Astonishing Stan Lee, and a Re-Employed Gail Simone. Following that, the boys continue their shameless public felating of Kevin Smith (He isn’t hiring any more “friends” Jeremy!), discuss the Django Unchained linguistic hullabaloo, the chances of building an actual Enterprise, asteroids, and pirates and the films that they love.

After that, Jeremy and Jason welcome back Anne Sisk and Steven Sautter to discuss the great war between digital comics and paper comics and the future of the comic industry and then we introduce the HALL OF EXCELLENCE and induct a man who ate everything on the Hobbit menu at Dennys… may he rest in peace.

‘Mockingbird Lane’ Officially Dead

Herman Munster’s heart has beat it’s last with the announcement that NBC is not moving forward with Bryan Fuller‘s Munsters reboot, Mockingbird Lane. The official word came out earlier toady when Fuller tweeted:

That tweet marks the last shovel of dirt on the reboot’s grave. It was a rocky two year road for the show that faced multiple rewrites, casting issues, and lackluster NBC Brass support. Once NBC passed on the pilot, but decided to air it as a Halloween Special the series death was pretty much cast. Fans hoped a strong showing might bring the show back from the dead, but even 5.4 million total viewers couldn’t keep Herman’s heart beating.

What did you think of the pilot? I actually came around toward the end, but considering the ten million dollar price tag on the pilot I can see why NBC might be a little leery.

James Gunn Writes Words on the Internet & Denies Casting Rumors

Beset by casting rumors that indicated that former Chuck star Zachary Levi might get another role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (he plays Fandral in the upcoming Thor: The Dark World), Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn took to the internet to deny the latest speculation… and then he wrote about cumming in Levi’s face, only he didn’t because that was just a bit of humor and some cutting edge satire.

It’s cool everybody! Take down the petition to get me fired. Just some satire, nothing to see here. Anyway… here’s Gunn’s actual, disappointingly PG statement:

“Almost everything in that Variety article on the Guardians of the Galaxy casting (and all the following articles based on it) was/is completely inaccurate. Just for the record.”

Gunn said this on Facebook by the way, and then, utilizing the advanced technology of the digital age, he deleted it, because he really likes to write things on the internet and then delete them.

So, who will play Peter Quill, aka Starlord? Based on Gunn’s magical disappearing statement, one would think that no one has a beat on it but GeekTyrant states:

“Joel Edgerton (The Warrior), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Lee Pace (Lincoln and The Hobbit), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), James Marsden (X-Men) and Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) were all originally rumored to be in the running. Chances are one of them will end up getting the part.”

So either they have some fresh information or they’re committing the sin of speculation and they really want James Gunn to mention them on Facebook.

J.J. Abrams Gives Thumbs Down To Directing Star Wars VII

The search for a director for Star Wars VII is going to have to continue as J.J. Abrams clarifies his refusal to sit in the Star Wars VII directorial chair. Empire Magazine recently sat down with Abrams:

“I guess the franchises could go up against each other, but I’m not thinking that far ahead! I’m a huge fan of Star Wars, Empire and Jedi, and the idea of the world continuing is exciting and will be amazing. Kathy Kennedy is a friend and there are no smarter producers. It’s in great hands.”

“There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I’d rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them.”

The list of potential directors keeps getting smaller and smaller as some of the hottest directors in Hollywood step back from the Star Wars franchise. Are we going to end up with a first time director at the helm of one of the biggest Sci-Fi franchises of all time?

I’m wondering if we might be better with someone like Seth Green, or Topher Grace in the director’s chair. Grace recently re-cut the Star Wars Prequels and although it was not shown in public, I’m sure that someone in the Lucas Arts management team must have seen it by now.

What do you think? Who is your choice to take over the directorial reins?

Hugh Jackman Confirms Surprise Cameo In Upcoming Wolverine Flick

We’ve been speculating for a while about whether or not there will be another cameo from a fellow X-Men member in the upcoming Wolverine flick since young Cyclops was a thing in X-Men: Origins. We now have confirmation from Hugh Jackman himself that there will be a cameo, however he did not specify who that would be.

As he had said to Parade Magazine:

My character is at his lowest. He is supposed to be able to heal himself, but he may encounter someone who has worked out a way to really hurt him," Jackman said. "And there is a cameo from one of the past X-Men in it."

Perhaps it’s Jean Grey because of the rumors that Famke Janssen was in Sydney, Australia a few months ago, where parts of the movie was filmed. It’s absolutely plausible though if that were the case, chances are she won’t have a huge role to play.

What do you guys think? Who would you like to see show up?

The Top 10 Nerdy TV Shows of 2012

It's that time of year where we take stalk and make lists, and today we make a list of the Best Nerdy TV Shows of 2012. Now the Best Nerdy Shows are not the same as the regular Best Shows of the Year. Sure, your average nerd may love to watch Homeland, or Mad Men, or Breaking Bad, or maybe even the recently departed Gossip Girl, but the content of those shows are not necessarily nerdy. So for the purposes of this list, the "Best Shows" are ones that take place in a nerdy genre - like sci-fi, fantasy or horror - or feature a cast of characters who fit the definition of nerds.

So now that we've gotten than bit of preamble/introduction out of the way, let's take a look back at the year that was (the final year?) on the boob tube. With a nerdy bend, of course.

1. Lost Girl

I know, this is a curious selection, right? Let's just say it's my Canadian bias showing. And I've got to say that it means a lot that so many American fans have hopped on the bandwagon of this show, because, as Canadians, we need constant affirmation from our older cousin south of the border. But seriously, I feel, and I think objectively, that Lost Girl is the inheritor to Buffy the Vampire Slayer's TV Crown for best, complex, butt-kicking female character, and things definitely got heavy for our succubus heroine this year as Bo had to put together a plan to deal with the big bad Garuda who wanted to start a war between all Fae. She also had no less than three different romantic entanglements to unravel and found out that her Fae mentor Trick was also, in fact, her grandfather. The creative team did a marvelous job of enriching and expanding the world of Lost Girl with new characters that explored the ever murkier world of the Fae, as well as bringing back old characters like Vex, who got a chance to play almost hero in the fight against the Garuda. As well, the writers set up the possibility that Bo may ultimately be her own worst enemy moving forward, which looks likely to play a role in the new season. Not much has been revealed about what's in store for the upcoming season 3, but the good news for American fans is that it will quite nearly be simulcast on both Showcase in Canada and Sy-Fy, which proves just how big Lost Girl's gotten stateside: fans will not longer wait months to share a Canadian experience.

2. Game of Thrones

Winter came and it was awesome. The sophomore season of HBO's Game of Thrones not only expanded the series scope, its story and its cast, but it also expanded its audience as more people came to the world of George R. R. Martin's Westeros, where war, treachery and sexy times await. Despite the adulation over that first season, even fans noted that from the outset that the tone and pacing were uneven, which made season 2 an even more pleasing experience in that it looked like the writers had worked out some of those issues. Call it more confidence, not just in execution of the concept but in the willingness of the audience to play along, but the Thrones team seemed a bit freer from the weight of expectations and play things more organically, even with some occasional humor. Along with the expanding story was an expanding cast, and unlike many other HBO shows (most notably True Blood) adding new faces didn't necessarily feel like bloat. In fact there's so much going on between the characters that you only occasionally get a chance to take stock of the tremendous locations, set design and visual effects, which are all, of course, awesome. With new fans coming to Thrones all the time, the show gets one label that we, the nerdy, may not necessary like, but helps a show like Thrones reach an audience far broader than the hardcore fans: it's the fantasy show that doesn't have to flaunt it. It's just great TV.

3. The Vampire Diaries

Twilight maybe over, but The Vampire Diaries, now in its fourth season, is still going strong. What's the difference, you may ask. Because yes, this a show filled with attractive young people, fresh from iTunes musical choices and fashion catalog ready threads, but Diaries also doubles down on being TV's fastest moving drama. Your arch-enemy one week might be the one person you need to save the day next week, and the love or you life in the previous episode becomes the one who delivers the most stinging betrayal now. Also working in Diaries favor is its capacity to kill off characters without pity or remorse, even its main character. Now granted, Elena woke up at the end of the episode as a vampire, but unlike her thematic soul sister Bella, Elena's had actual difficulty trying to deal with being one of the undead. And on top of all that, she's broke up with her vampire boyfriend Stefan and fallen for his vampire brother Damon, which is due in no small part to Stefan's obsession in trying to cure Elena's vampirism by working with arch-villain Klaus who wants to make Elena human again because her blood is the key to making vampire/werewolf hybrids. And that's only about three minutes of plot from the average Diaries episode.

4. Community

Although technically in 2012 we only got about half-a-season's worth of Community, but those dozen episodes were no less potent and uproarious than a year's worth of other sitcoms on the air. We saw Troy and Abed's friendship devolve into a literal Civil War, the gang went all 8-bit to help Pierce get his inheritance, and in the most stunning and hilarious acts of product placement ever performed, Britta fell for a man who was the legal, human embodiment of Subway at Greendale. Somewhere along the way, Chang seized campus in a bloodless coup, Evil Abed crossed over into our universe and Troy assumed his destiny as the True Repairman. What it all adds up to is that Community is a series that will almost literally do anything for a laugh, and laugh we certainly did. Well, those that tuned in did, and Chevy Chase is obviously not laughing. And I guess we'll find out if we still will be when the series returns with new showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port on February 7. Long live Star-burns! #sixseasonsandamovie.

5. Doctor Who

Steven Moffat is a master of subverting expectations. We all knew that this was going to be the last season for Amy and Rory, we knew what episode they would leave in and we more or less knew the circumstances under which they'd depart. Then, just when you think the day is saved via a nifty paradox, nope, it turns out that everything's eventual anyway. Truly, these are the best of times and the worst of times for The Doctor. He stood triumphant above the Silence, and the Daleks, and all other enemies, but those victories came with a cost. He's made the universe forget him, but he's still making new friends, and on Christmas Day we'll meet his latest friend, or companion (if you will), Jenna-Louise Coleman. But what does it mean when The Doctor meets her in Victorian England, especially since he met a girl that looks just like her (even if, to The Doctor, she looked like a big old Dalek) at the top of series seven? That's only one of the many mysteries Moffat and Co. will surely lay before us as we officially head into The Doctor's 50th year since premiering on the BBC.

6. The Big Bang Theory

TV's perennial nerd ambassadors had a huge year with marriages, space missions, new levels of commitment, and, of course, new adventures in nerdery. What began as seemingly a venue to mock the overly broad perception of what it is to be a nerd, The Big Bang Theory has grown into a fun ensemble comedy where in the writers as often play against stereotypes and expectations to deliver laughs as they indulge in them. Self-deluded ladies man Howard has become the one member of the gang to settle down into married life with Bernadette (of course "settled down" is relative), Penny finally dropped the L-bomb on Leonard who's blissfully ignorant of the growing affections of Sheldon's lab assistant, and Dr. Cooper himself has allowed some degree of humanitarian growth, amending his relationship agreement with Amy to allow for some (slight) physical intimacy. But the most astounding part is that Big Bang now sits perched as TV's biggest comedy, and while it's not definitive proof that nerds now rule the world, it's definitely an encouraging step forward.

7. Fringe

True, Fringe in 2012 has been, at times, wildly uneven, but when the series is at its best, it's still the best sci-fi show on television, not just because of the weird science, but because it also wears its heart on its sleeve. Instead of going the obvious route and setting up the stakes for all-out war between the two universes, they came together not just to battle the threat of David Robert Jones (and his puppet master/God-in-the-making William Bell), but to foster a better understanding with each other. It was indeed a very bittersweet goodbye when the alt-universe went bye-bye at the end of season four. That's okay though because there's now the small problem of The Observers to deal with in the year 2036. The sucker punch that was the death of Peter and Olivia's now grown daughter Etta added some much needed emotional heft to season 5's Observer defeat plan scavenger hunt, and Joshua Jackson finally got to put a new spin on Peter when the grieving father put Observer technology in his head in order to expedite revenge. And while I will note that this season's future action was often seemed quite detached from the rest of the series five years, the cast and crew of Fringe continue to make sure that we will still miss it when it's gone after next month.

8. The Walking Dead

After a run where even the shooting of zombified 8-year-old in the head couldn't summon the requisite dramatic gravitas for a series about a group of survivors at the end of the world, The Walking Dead came back to life (pun intended) in a big way through the second half of season 2 and on through the first half of season 3. Many thought the mere introduction of The Governor was enough to get Dead's juices going again, but the writers have kept up the heat by keeping our crew of survivors on a constant razor's edge that any one of them may fall off at any given time. Even the precocious Carl got his moment to be a stone cold zombie killer by ending his own mom. (And that was after she gave birth in a harrowing emotional sequence to boot.) Dead still needs to find a way to carry dramatic tension without relying solely on the threat of zombie-fried death, but considering where we've been. this series finally found its footing in 2012.

9. Arrow

It seemed doomed to failure. A new CW series based on a DC Comics character, shepherded by the team behind the script of last year's superhero flame-out Green Lantern, and based on a character that was already ploughed and examined in previous CW hit Smallville? Doubtful it could be anything but lame, right? Too bad the cast and crew of Arrow had other plans. Taking their cue from Christopher Nolan's darkly down-to-earth Dark Knight trilogy, Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg have combined edge-of-your-seat action, compelling crime drama, and your typical CW romantic melodrama in a compelling way. And on top of all that, they've thrown in more comic book references than The O.C., Big Bang Theory and all of Kevin Smith's movies combined, and they're only nine episodes into the show. So far we've met China White, Dark Archer, Deathstroke and The Huntress, and in the new year we'll meet Count Vertigo and Roy Harper. As for what Evil Captain Jack Harkness has in store for our titular hero, who was finally referred to by name in last week's episode, we'll have to wait and see.

10. Continuum

Like Lost Girl, Continuum has already aired in Canada, but its coming to Sy-Fy in the new year, and I can already tell you it will be the most sci-fi thing on Sy-Fy in a long time (or at least since the end of Stargate). Centred around a terrorist group from a corporate-ruled future who escape to our present day with a singular cop (played by Rachel Nichols) accidentally in tow, Continuum combines high-minded science fiction with a crime procedural. Watching the series you get important discussions about the increasing control of unregulated corporations over our lives, but you also get a complex character drama as the terrorists' master plan suffers the slings and arrows of competing interests, including one who works with the cop in exchange for being allowed to stay in the present and get rich from his future knowledge. Meanwhile, the series also indulges in time-travel fun, including a character in the present who perhaps has a greater influence on future events than even he knows. (And that includes a fine, creepy return to form by Cigarette-Smoking Man William B. Davis.) Continuum maybe the best sci-fi (and Sy-Fy) series you see in 2013, but you'll have to come back here next December to be sure.

‘Trek’ News: Cumberbatch Villain Talk and New Pics

It’s another early Christmas present for Star Trek fans as Empire magazine features a big spread of new photos from Into Darkness as the cover story for its 2013 preview issue. Meanwhile, in other areas of the internet, Benedict Cumberbatch talked to GyaO! in great detail about his villainous role as John Harrison, the catalyst for the action in the sequel who right now may or may not be identified by a Miranda Tate-like alias to mask his true identity.

Let’s do words first. Cumberbatch, with some support/supervision by director J.J. Abrams, enlightened GyaO! (via Coming Soon) as to the methods and motivations of the Harrison character. I don’t think there’s anything below that might answer fan questions about potential secret identities, but its actually nice to hear both Abrams and Cumberbatch finally shed some light on character with so much mystery built in.

Here’s what they had to say:

“When J.J. described the role to me, he described someone who was, in movie terms, a mixture of Hannibal Lecter, Jack in ‘The Shining,’ and the Joker in ‘Batman,’” Cumberbatch said. “…He’s someone who has enormous physical strength. He’s someone who is incredibly dangerous, both as a physical entity and through the use of various technologies and weapons and who performs acts of what I would describe as terrorism. He’s also a psychological master. He manipulates the minds of those around him to do his bidding in a very, very subtle way.”

“His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an… average guy who works in an organization called Starfleet,” Abrams added, “and he turns against the group because he has got this backstory and this kind of amazing secret agenda. After two very violent attacks, one in London and one in the US, our characters have to go after this guy and apprehend him. And it is a far more complicated and difficult thing then they ever anticipated. ‘Into Darkness’ is very much about how intense it gets and really what they are up against.”

Now here’s the goodies. A veritable ton o’ never-before-seen shots from Into Darkness feature much of the major cast including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and Cumberbatch. Select an image and click to embiggen. (Thanks to Coming Soon for doing all the tedious scanning.)

Star Trek Into Darkness comes out in theaters everywhere May 17, 2013.

A Letter to the Doctor: “Save Us From The Apocalypse!”

With the apocalypse scheduled for tomorrow thanks to a few lazy Mayan calendar makers, we thought it best to write a letter to the one being who can surely save our planet — the Doctor. Trouble is, we don’t have his mailing address (he moves… a bit so we’re putting this out there in the hopes that it gets to him by way of the Archangel network or perhaps Reddit or Twitter.

Dearest Doctor,

It’s Christmas time, and once again the earth is in peril. The earth, not just England.

As our most dedicated and able protector, we are asking you — and whatever chippy you presently have by your side — to intercede so that we don’t have to put our impractical and fanciful delusions of post-apocalyptic grandeur to the test. Doctor, most of us can’t start a fire without a how to app and our combat skills have been forged in the fake fires of Skyrim. We are not built to fend off zombies or live without electricity.

We need your help and I don’t think I have to remind you that without the earth, your ready supply of Jelly Babies, pocket celery, and fish fingers and custard will dry up. Also, what would you do without us? How would you occupy your time without our constant need to be rescues by Sontaran’s, Cybermen, Dalek’s, and weird cubes?

Besides, Doctor, you know you can’t travel alone. What will you do when there are no more companions to wow and woo? Shape shifting android? They don’t last long. Alien? The last one you had humped everyone’s leg.

Face it Doctor, we are the needy ying to your helpy yang, so go wrap a rift lasso around Nibiru the Ghost Planet and tow it out of our way, go back in time and give the Mayans a calendar made out of psychic paper, or use your sonic screwdriver on something so that the North and South pole don’t reverse.

Rescue us Doctor, find it in your hearts to keep us safe. We’re dimwitted apes who should aspire to be men and women who never would, but we still have an undefinable charm that keeps you coming back. Doctor, for all the monsters that we make, we’ve also counted Rose, Sarah Jane, and Amelia and Rory among us, so Doctor please don’t Pompeii us.

Sincerely,

The People of Earth

PS: Please forward this to Batman… just in case.

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Makes “Most Watched Movie Trailers of 2012” List

Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises received many praises and accolades (along with its fair share of criticisms, but screw those people. It's also being pushed for several Academy Awards in nearly every damn category that exists. But lo and behold, for Nolan's masterpiece has another distinction of glory and fame – that of the most watched movie trailer of 2012.

Judging by YouTube counts, The Dark Knight Rises is first on the movie list and third overall, beaten out only by two separate Black Ops 2 trailers. Check below to see exactly which of the millions of Dark Knight trailers was the one that people seemed to like so much.

width="600" height="340" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/g8evyE9TuYk?hl=en_US&version=3" allowFullScreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" />

Okay, so maybe in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean shit. But it does at least prove that the marketing department is doing their job, right?

If you're feeling so inclined, check out the rest of the list over at Think With Google.

Thanks to /film for the heads-up.

‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Gets its Final Agent – Chloe Bennet

Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. television project is underway and rumors put an airing date for next year. But before shooting begins, the show needs a cast, right? As it turns out, the top secret organization has just managed to secure its 6th and final agent. Her name is Agent Skye and she'll be played by Chloe Bennet of ABC's Nashville.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the character of Skye is "...a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She's edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature..."

Well, there's not much to be said for character descriptions this early on, especially when every single one of them sounds like a bad cop show stereotype. Let's hope Whedon breathes some new life into them so we don't just end up watching CSI: Marvel.

Together with agents Melinda May (Ming-na), Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), Gemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), Leo Fitz (Ian De Caestecker) and Phil "It's just a flesh wound" Coulson (Clark Gregg), the S.H.I.E.L.D. team is ready to go clean up some super hero bullshit.

‘Theory of Everything’ – Another Comic Turning into Film

Om Nom Nom! That is the sound of Hollywood devouring yet one more comic book project and turning it into a movie. This time around, the succubus-like company is 20th Century Fox and the property is a little (and little known) piece called Theory of Everything.

The story revolves around a brilliant yet unappreciated scientist who is trying to rescue his wife from a parallel dimension. Written by Dan Casey with art by Thomas Nacklick, Theory of Everything was published by Top Cow Productions as part of their "pilot season" series – an attempt to test the potential goodness of new comic titles. Just one comic was made, but they pitched it to Fox and the movie execs ate it up.

Well, I guess we'll see where this one goes as they get closer to actually producing it, but it's a pretty nifty way of selling an idea to a movie company. Hell, they didn't even have to finish the actual series! Lazy writers...

Thanks to ComingSoon for the heads-up.

‘Dead Space 3′ – Still Terrifying in Co-op

We always thought that the Dead Space franchise would be less terrifying if you had a companion by your side. As it turns out, no… no it isn’t.

It’s still the same edge of your seat, white knuckle adventure into insanity it always was.

Visceral Games has released a new trailer that let’s us know no matter how many people you have with you, the buddy system doesn’t mean anything in the decent into madness.

Clarke still appears to be batshit insane, I mean why else would the trailer focus on toy soldiers*(Editor’s note* Because toy soldiers are horrifying that’s why.) and why would your co-op partner look like the necromorphs have taken hold of him? We are not ashamed to say we defiantly experience goosebumps during this video. Turn all your lights on a stay safe while you watch this..

J. Nolan Talks Batman Villains Missed, ‘Justice League’ Movie and ‘Avengers’ Thoughts

Jonathan Nolan is definitely one of the nerdy elite, and if you don’t get that impression from his collaborations from his director brother Christopher (like co-writing the Dark Knight movies and The Prestige), or the weekly adventures of Jesus and Ben Linus on Person of Interest which he created, then maybe the below interview will convince you. Or no. Whatever.

So these excerpts come from an interview in Empire, who asked Nolan about such tantalizing fan queries as sneaking Robin into the end of The Dark Knight Rises, the Batman villains they couldn’t use, his thoughts on the upcoming Justice League movie, and what he really thought of Dark Knight competitor for best superhero movie of the year, The Avengers.

First things first, just how did they sneak “The Boy Wonder” into the Nolan Bat-universe?

It is a little hard to imagine Robin working in that universe, so the idea had to be limited to that gag at the end. But Joe's character is very important to the story. In any movie you need a character looking at proceedings the way you see them, and Joe's character is that character for this film. One of my favourite scenes is when John tells Bruce how he knew he was Batman. It's like that scene in The Prestige where the little kid sees through Christian's trick. Little kids, they don't have any illusions, they just see the truth of the situation. I feel there's a kind of spiritual connection between the two movies there.

So let’s talk Bat-villains now. Are there any that Nolan wishes he could have penned into the series?

Yeah, like Clayface or, indeed, The Penguin. Part of what's compelling about Chris's take is the naturalism of it and I think that's one of the things I loved about the Frank Miller comic books was that they were sort of urban, gritty vigilante stories first and formost. So everything had to stick within that universe. It's hard to imagine [in these movies] any of the rogue's gallery characters who have sort of a more supernatural or science-fiction bent to them. And I think that's one of the aspects of Batman which are fascinating: in 70 years, the character has been sort of fully laundered. Because of writers and artists having every month coming up with a different story to tell with this character, there are often different genre aspects to it. You have your science-fictions, you've had fantasy elements along the way, horror, camp comedy… I mean there are so many different versions.

And while his big brother has been pretty clear about his future intentions with DC Comics-based movies, the littler Nolan says that he’s looking forward to the eventual Justice League film.

I'm incredibly excited. I was a big Batman fan when I was a kid. In fact he was the only comic-book character I really liked. I went through a brief spell where I was reading Captain Britain, because I was an English kid living in the States, and Wolverine for 30 seconds, Spider-Man too, but really Batman was the one. And I love that there are different versions of the character. I love that in the context of The Justice League, he's kind of the black sheep of that family.

Currently, Justice League is scheduled against the sequel to The Avengers in 2015, which is going to be a pretty epic box office match-up if it ends up going down, perhaps even bigger than this summer’s showdown between The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. But seriously, what did Nolan think about the efforts of the other team?

I did. To me Joss Whedon is a god, I'm just a huge fan of his work, I love his work on TV. And I thought The Avengers was just an incredible achievement.

Nice of Jonah to be so giving to the Marvel side of life.

AMC Goes Black and White for Season 1 & 2 of ‘The Walking Dead’

Last July AMC aired The Walking Dead pilot episode in black and white. It was a nod to the black and white comic book series The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. The absence of color adds an interesting look and feel to the show and AMC has decided to show the first two seasons of The Walking Dead in black and white this February.

Reruns are a huge part of many television channels, some don’t even wait until the hiatus to start. Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead often show the same episode twice on air night and then again the following week as a precursor to the new episode giving those that missed it the chance to catch up. Many networks are doing the same thing. AMC is just taking that to the next level in hopes of snagging new viewers and drawing back rabid fans.

The Walking Dead Magazine posted the above, and Show runner Glen Mazzara retweeted a fan's photo of the article. Season three of The Walking Dead continues on February 10th, 2013. Perhaps the black and white episodes will air marathon style before the big premiere episode of the second half of season three.

If you haven’t checked it out already you should click the link for The Walking Dead Motion Comic. It’s a great little video and features the voice of Phil LaMarr.

Listen to Dwarves Sing the Misty Mountain Song

The things I do to bring you the nerdiest news, you just can’t imagine the suffering. Just the other day I had to attend a press showing of The Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey, and I’m just itching to tell you all about it, but I can’t. I don’t want to spoil it for you.

While you can expect a full review on Friday, there are a few things I can share.

It runs a little long, and is a tad more whimsical than the LOTR trilogy. Overall, though, it’s an astonishing picture. It’s beautifully shot and filled with great performances and moments that due Tolkien proud. It’s wonderful to be back in the world of middle earth again. Oh, and if you plan on seeing it, you gotta see it in 3D, 48 Frames Per Second. It’s really something. It’s not gimmicky, or makes you sick like some reports have lead you to believe. You feel immersed in the movie. Your eyes never leave the screen. If anything, it will ruin watching movies at home, as all else pails in comparison. This really is the future of the movie going experience

Anyway, with 3 days left until the official premier, The Hobbit marketing machine is still in full effect. Warner Bros. has released yet another new film clip from the film, featuring Thorin Oakenshield and the dwarves singing the “Misty Mountains” song as Bilbo listens in. We heard this song in the first trailer, but now you get to see how the scene plays out. Having seen the film, I can tell you it’s one of the best scenes. It sets the tone for journey ahead. Check it out below:
