I didn't even notice, until later, but yesterday when I posted the "Vintage Photo of a Kid in Batman Costume" story, that was the 1500th post on the Bat-Blog! WOW!! One Thousand Five Hundred Posts!! I like how that happened by accident because, really, the MAIN goal of the Bat-Blog is all about sharing our love of the Batman character & the joys of collecting different Batman Memorabilia. OK, Right off the bat I wanna say that the above photo is actually made into a "Desktop Wallpaper", for those interested, & it's kinda cool. The thing is, a new friend to the Bat-Blog named JR, sent me a really big photo of his amazing Vintage Batman Toy Collection. But, the picture deserves to be seen large just so you can focus on all the stuff here...it's amazing! This is an extremely impressive gathering of Bat-Memorabilia. There's a ton of vintage 60's items mixed with stuff from last week, I like that. There's also a few pieces that are extremely RARE! I spent a lot of time looking at every single clue as to what each item was & there's a lot of high-quality stuff here. What many Toy Collectors call "Museum Pieces". Oh sure, a couple of things are kinda common. We all have stuff like that because it's neat to have & you can usually find it at a garage sale for cheap. But, there's some other collectibles here that I will never get ( or see in "real life" )...unless I win the lottery! Thank you JR for sharing this pic with us. You have a nice collection to be vey proud of. Personally, I hope you send us more photos!! hint, hint.
A new trading card company called PLAYGROUND MANIACS has come out with a really neat concept. They sell these packs of THE DARK KNIGHT Collectible Stickers & you get a free Mini-Figure in each pack! Each package contains 8 stickers & 1 figure. There are 180 stickers total to collect & 6 mini-figures. They also make a "Collectible Sticker Album" for you to put the stickers in. The figures include: 1 Joker, 1 Tumbler Batmobile, 1 Bat-Pod Motorcycle, & 3 Different Variations of Batman. The only place I have seen these so far are Target Stores. I bought one pack & got a "Batman Standing" figure...pretty neat! I plan on getting all 6 figures. The Batman I got is almost 3" tall. Awhile back a Bat-Blog Reader named Jim sent us these cool photos of some recently acquired Batman collectibles. He said they're from the 1980's & he was happy to find them because he has never seen them before. I gotta admit that I don't remember ever seeing them either...how weird! There's four of them & each one has a different cover with another character. Familiar super-villains include The Penguin, Killer Croc, Man-Bat, & one character I have never heard of before, "World Destroyer"! Also, what is Hawkman doing making an appearance on the Man-Bat cover? Wow! Thanks Jim for sending the wonderful pictures. These have got to be extremely RARE! I want to invite all other readers with weird, unusual, Batman Memorabilia to send some pics today! Sharing fun, obscure, rare information about Batman toy collecting is the main purpose of this page!
I thought it was time to post a few pictures of Batman toys from the past. So, here we go! The 1st photo is from a friend in Chicago who really loves the RARE & obscure vintage Batman toys. He recently sent us this great photo of a 1970's BATMAN OFFICIAL BATCYCLE Remote-Control Toy, with Original Box. I seriously love this thing, it's awesome! Plus, you don't see too many of the vintage "Batman on Motorcycle" toys so that's cool. The 2nd photo is pretty amazing also. This is an original store display to sell 70's BATMAN SUPERHERO PUFFY-STICKERS. I guess this hung behind the counter & you would say, "Hey, give me a Robin, Catwoman, & The Joker!" This one looks unused & is extremely RARE. I love the vintage graphics that are all over this thing, especially the header-card part. The last photo is the OFFICIAL BATMAN SHOOTING ARCADE. Again, the vintage 70's graphics are wonderful. This is a very hard-to-find item, even loose. But to see it in the box is a treat. I wanna take this time to ask all Bat-Blog Readers with RARE toys to please send some pics to share. That's the main focus of the Bat-Blog, sharing the joys of collecting Batman!
I have a question to ask the readers of the Bat-Blog. Please look at this photo of these 2 RARE 1966 Batman "Bat Brush" Toothbrushes made by The Butler Brush Company. One is Red & the other is sort of an Aqua-Green. The question is, "Have you ever seen any other colors of this item before?". This is something that a Bat-Blog Reader named Ralph wanted to know. Apparently he wants to get one of each color & is wondering what the other ones are. Personally, I think he should be happy with one of them & send me the other one as a gift...that would be cool, ha ha! If you know of any other colors then please leave a comment down below, thanks.
A Bat-Blog Reader named "Mr. Anderson" sent us some nice photos of his Batman Batmobile Car Collection. OK, He has a few action figures & bat-merchandise that are NOT Batmobiles but the main focus is the famous car. While checking out the pictures I noticed he had a black Kenner Superpowers Batmobile ( the original one is bright blue ). I asked what that was about & he said it's a car he's customizing. Wow, that's a cool idea! Overall there's some really great items here & the start of an awesome collection. There are so many Vintage Batmobile Toys out there, & also brand-new toys coming out, that you should be able to stay busy for a very long time! Yesterday I received an e-mail from a Bat-Blog Reader who sent some incredible photos of her boyfriend's display of Batman Memorabilia. She said, "Hello Bat-Blog, my name is Melissa and I wanted to tell you guys about my boyfriend's Batman Toy collection. He has so much stuff we had to buy a bigger house with a room just for Batman! He has about 20 boxes in the garage that are unopened complete old Batman sets and the whole room is full, its pouring over into the other rooms! I took some pics and I have included them. By the way, he goes on your site every day & his name is Pete, thanks." WOW!! Melissa, please tell Pete that he has some very amazing super-cool stuff & I really appreciate YOU sending these great pics, thank you. I love to see what other Batman Collectors have. I always end up playing that game where I am like, "OK I have that, I don't have that, I have never seen that before, oooh awww I want that!", ha ha! It's great! A Bat-Blog reader named Bill, who lives in Guthrie, OK, sent us some photos to share of his cool Batman Toy Collection. He states that he just started to collect this stuff & I think he's accumulated some really great pieces so far! The great thing about collecting Batman items is that there is such a HUGE amount of collectibles out there that you can spend like five lifetimes trying to get it all. We just received an email from a Bat-Blog Fan named Justin & it was loaded with a bunch of cool pics! Justin said that he has been a Fan of the Dark Knight since age 5 & he is now 19. The thing he really enjoys is collecting the Batman Trade Paperback Books ( Graphic Novels ), Hardback Books, & Comic Books. Here are some photos he sent of his collection. Because of space limitations I couldn't publish them all but these do give you a really good idea of what an awesome library he has. On a side-note, I like how he has a Post-It Note attached to the shelf, near the Batman books, that reads, "DO NOT TOUCH!", that's funny! Check out these wonderful photos of an amazing assortment of Vintage BATMAN MENKO Cards. These belong to one of our new friends named Yuji. He's been collecting these for awhile & says he has even more than the ones shown here! Yeah, I'm pretty jealous, ha! I have one large uncut sheet of these that were a gift from a good friend named Saul. I also have a few loose ones. But Yuji has almost everybody beat! Oh, before I forget, I wanna thank him for sharing these pics, they're great items.
Now some people might ask, "What is Menko?". MENKO is a Japanese card game played by two or more players. It is also the name of the type of cards used to play this game. Each player uses Menko cards made from thick paper or cardboard, with one or both side printed. A player's card is placed on the hardwood or concrete floor and the other player throws down his card, trying to flip the other player's card with a gust of wind or by striking his card against the other card. If he succeeds, he takes both cards. The player who takes all the cards, or the one with the most cards at the game's end, wins the game.
In the 1990's it was a great time to be a Batman Toy collector. I mean, you had all the movies going on, and then on TV, you also had the wonderful Animated Series Cartoon. Shown here are a few cool toys & 90's memorabilia pieces picked totally at random. The 1st item is a very RARE 1992 BATMAN RETURNS Ralston Cereal Store Display Sign. Kids would have seen this at the Grocery Store & then start begging Mom, ha! I really like the graphics on this thing. Speaking of the cereal, the next pic shows a few BATMAN RETURNS Cereal Box Premiums that were available FREE inside the boxes! These are 3-D Flicker Bookmarks, meaning, you tilt them & the pictures change from one image to the other. There were 3 of them in the complete set: Catwoman, Batman, and The Penguin. Now the next photo sort of gets away from the movies for a minute. This is a Plush Batman Doll from 1994 ( 16" Tall ) that was tied-into "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" Animated TV Series. I love the old cartoon logo & the packaging is interesting with the "open box" design. Last, but not least, is a RARE 1997 BATMAN AND ROBIN Movie Store Display Sign from Taco Bell. It advertised the contest they had going on their Pepsi Drink products. Well, does any of these items bring back any memories? I know back then I was totally about the cereal, ha ha!
OK, The more I look at this image, the more I want to cry! The Bat-Blog has a cool friend over at facebook named Jean Baptiste. He lives in Belgium & is also a major Vintage Toy Collector. His main focus are old Japanese Tin Toys & Robots from Japan. He recently sent me this photo the other day of a beautiful 60's Batmobile Tin Toy Car from his collection. Now, I'm not sure if he was just sharing to be nice, or if he was trying to torture me ( ha ha! ). But either way, thank You Jean for the great pic. I love this old toy so much that I made two BATMAN WALLPAPERS out of it! Just choose the color you like, then POW! You got an awesome desktop background, ha!
Check out these amazing photos we just got from our Good Friend "BAT-CAT". He has plans to open a brand-new BATMAN TOYS AND COLLECTIBLES MUSEUM in Thailand. Shown here are a few Architectural CGI Renderings of the planned site and building. Of course these things are usually a mock-up concept thing, & the final result is almost always different, but it should give you an idea how extremely GREAT this is going to be! He thinks it will be ready by early next year. Remember, the Bat-Blog will keep you updated on this. In the mean time, I want to wish the best of luck for this project. I'm really excited about it because it looks so cool!!
