Ok, so a film based on (read: bought the rights to the name of) the iconic Hot Wheels line of toys is apparently a thing....Because Battleship clearly demonstrated how good an idea making a movie based on toys with no inherent story line is.
Legendary Pictures has signed former stuntman Simon Crane to direct the film from a script by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Paul Attanasio (Donnie Brasco, Quiz Show) is also on board to rewrite.
No word as yet regarding plot, story line, or casting. However, there's some talent here-and the absurd success of Universal's Fast and Furious franchise, plus the announced DreamWorks adaptation of the Need For Speed video game series seem to imply that this could be a profitable-if not exactly inspired-piece of cinema.
