Our friend Brian sent us this extremely cool Black & White Art Photo that shows Batman waking up & getting out of bed. Apparently, he lives in a super-minimalist house ...Awesome!
The next picture was one that I found from an art gallery that had a show of "Blotter Acid Art". Blotter Art is a movement that gained popularity a few years ago where they print designs on a perforated-sheet of actual LSD Acid Blotter Paper. They look kinda neat when framed & have sort of a political statement automatically attached because of the "drug culture" aspect of the paper. For non-druggies this is the kind of paper drug dealers use to sell LSD. They drip the chemical onto each square & when addicts buy them they tear off some squares. If you don't want a full dose you just tear a piece in half, or a "half hit". Of course these Batman ones don't have the drug dipped on them. They're just for looks.
I got an e-mail from a friend named Kevin who wrote, "I saw a post a while ago with someone's computer desk and you were asking for pictures of other peoples. Here's mine."...WOW! Thanks Kevin, that's exactly what we were asking for, a great shot of your computer's desk space where you read the Bat-Blog everyday! First off I gotta say I am quite impressed with the nice variety of Batman Memorabilia you have & I also like the way it's displayed, very cool! Thanks again Kevin, I appreciate that. I want to extend my invitation to other loyal readers to do the same. I just think it's kinda neat to see. Plus it's always great to see different toy collections. One of our Bat-Blog Readers, named Peter, sent us these amazing photos of his 2 Batman-related Tattoos & they're AWESOME! Extremely well done with sharp lines & nice coloring. Basically it's the "GOTHAM GIRLS" done in the artwork-style of Bruce Timm from Batman: The Animated Series. On one arm he has the Catwoman leaping through the air & on the other arm is a graphic showing Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn together. I have always loved that Classic TV Cartoon & think this is a great choice for tattoo art. Thank you Peter for sending these wonderful photos. This morning I was very happily surprised to find this awesome photo in my e-mail. It's from a friend in Chicago, named Joe, who got a HUGE Batman Tattoo on his back recently. The photo shows the preliminary "black line stage". He wrote, "Again, from Patrick Cornolo of Speakeasy Custom Tattoo, I finally got a proper Batman tattoo in time for the new movie coming out! It's actually a work in progress, as I only got the line work completed and will get the coloring done later. The image came from DC Comics' Secret Origins title from the 1980s. To make it a little more personal, I had Patrick redesign the background based on our home base here in Chicago. I'll forward another picture when I get the tattoo in full color, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!". WOW! Dude, it's HUGE! That must have hurt, ha ha! So far it looks really good & I know Patrick's work, so when it's done, it's gonna be totally awesome. He does great work. A new friend to the Bat-Blog, named Carl, sent in these amazing photos of some of his recently done Batman & Joker tattoos. The 1st 2 pictures show the "Gothic Batman" art on the back of his arm. I call it "Gothic" because of the Gothic-style lettering/font used for the letter B. I also like the simple silhouette of Batman in the background. This is a very interesting tattoo, one you don't see a lot. The next one is pretty awesome also. It's a Heath Ledger Joker Face from the new Dark Knight Batman movie. It's on the top of his fist so I guess when he punches you in the face the last thing you see, before passing out, is the Joker! Ha Ha, sorry, that was my lame attempt at humor. But seriously, these are some very well-done tattoos. Thank you Carl for sending the photos, I appreciate that & I know my readers will find them very interesting. I really really love old photos like this! When I saw this one I knew it had to be published here. This little guy is a true Batman Fan! His name is Todd & this photo was taken in 1992. He was 6 years old & look at that priceless expression on his face, he's happy! This looks like a homemade costume & those are usually the best! He told us it was made by his Grandmother & that's really special.Thanks Todd for sharing this great photo. I appreciate that & the costume is way too cool!
A friend of mine sent this hilarious picture because she knew my readers would love it. It is pretty neat ( Thanks, Debra ). It shows the actual Batman "movie scenes" that were parodied on The Simpsons. That TV show is famous for making "Pop Culture references". On the left is the scene from the cartoon & on the right is the "moment" it is making fun of. Most of them are from the classic 1989 Batman Movie but the last one is the 1966 Batman TV Show where they hit the Bat-Poles to go to the Batcave. You might have to click on the photo up above for a larger, more readable, version but it's really worth it... very funny!
Oh man, this funny photo ( sent in by a loyal Bat-Blog Reader ) really cracks me up!! It appears that some Batman Fan made himself a "Golden Age-Style Homemade Batmobile"!! As an example of what the car really looks like I placed a photo of the 1940's Batmobile ( made by Corgi Toys ) right under it.
A Bat-Blog Reader named Joel sent us this vintage family photo that totally cracks me up! Of course I mean that in a good way but I love old pictures like this that show young Bat-Fans all happy & proud. Look at their faces, this is great stuff! I'm guessing these 2 kids just got these for Christmas & were really happy about it. Obviously we're talking about the "Batman & Robin Pajamas". Joel didn't tell us the year the picture was shot but I'm guessing late 70's or very early 1980's. Thanks for sharing the photo Joel, it's awesome! A friend over at MySpace sent me this photo of an amazing Batman Tattoo he recently got. He explained that as a child he grew up on the "Tim Burton version" of Batman & he also loves the new Christopher Nolan Batman movies. So...he got them BOTH! As you can see, the new DARK KNIGHT bat-logo is crashing through the old 1989 movie Bat-Symbol. WOW! It looks pretty cool & I gotta give the artist credit for doing something very original. Thanks Vincent for sharing this photo. The Bat-Blog is all about the love of the Batman character & this really shows it.
A friend of mine named Brian has a really neat blog titled WHAT MY DAD SAW. I've always liked the design of his header for the blog because it's an old vintage photo of a car's rear-view mirror where you can see the little kids in the backseat, it's very appropriate & kind of clever. It's also sort of a very personal site where he reminisces about his childhood & his father's love of photography. Recently he has been getting into making animated gifs from the stereo images of View-Master Reels. His main focus is the packet of the 1966 BATMAN TV Show reel set. The picture was taken last July & shows us how some Batman Fans get totally creative! Here we see the Joker with his girlfriend, Harley Quinn, & their dog, Lou. Here at the Bat-Blog people are welcome to send us their vintage family photos if they're Batman-related. I always seriously love to get these because sometimes they're really cute & funny, other times they're just a really neat piece of Bat-History. This one is a great example of both! At first glance you see an extremely cute little Batman Fan sporting a BATMAN One-Piece Jumper ( I think they're called "Onesies" ). Just on that level you get the "cute & adorable" motif but then you see the Batman Clothing & realize that this bat-item is actually extremely SUPER-RARE. Man, I would love to have one of these in my personal collection. In fact, I would have it framed & put behind glass to protect it, ha ha! The next thing that's pretty interesting is the fact that this little kid started out in the crib as a Batman Fan & still is today. Now, that loyality! The photo is of our friend Ed & he explains it this way, "Let's see...I'm born Dec '65, "Batman" premieres on ABC in January of '66, and by Sept of that same year I'm already dressed in a Batman shirt. Yep, guess I've been a fan my whole life." Oh yeah, I love both the photo AND the story...too funny! Yeah, Batman Fan Forever! So, thanks Ed for sharing your family picture, it's great. Readers, he send another one of himself from later in life when he dressed as Robin at Halloween. You won't wanna miss this costume because it's actually pretty cool. But that one is for a future posting, so keep an eye out for that!
Here's a Vintage Family Photo sent in by our good friend Chip Kidd. Now, this is not "Chip when he was a small child", ha ha! No, it's just a photo that a friend sent to him because it is Batman & then he sent to us. WOW! This photo is extremely beautiful, both in subject matter AND quality! Because of the style of the Batman Superhero Halloween Costume, & the fashion of the clothing worn by Alfred, The Butler ( OK, probably his father or Grandfather, ha ha! ), I would guess it's from the early 1960's. So, the fact that it looks even older is pretty cool. I mean it looks Vintage 40's at least! Maybe it's the fact that it's Black & White or maybe because the architectural details are sort of European-looking. But the costume having the "Yellow Oval Bat-Symbol" on the chest is a dead give-away that's it's at least 1960's. Anyways, thank you to Chip Kidd for sending this wonderful photo, I really appreciate that & know everybody will love this cool pic! Now, If any other Bat-Blog Readers have similar "Batman Halloween Costume" photos then I am inviting them to send them in too!
I recently met a guy named Joseph who just got a new Batman-related tattoo that I knew I had to share here because it's extremely cool! The bat-tat looks like Vintage Pin-Up Girlie Art with HARLEY QUINN, The Joker's Girlfriend. I like how there is a fake "Autographed Signature" next to her, that's clever. It's the "Batman: The Animated Series" version that, personally, I like the best! Overall the colors are bright & sharp...looks great! Thank you Joseph for sharing this with my readers. I really love getting cool Batman-related pictures like this! A Bat-Blog Fan named Sam was kind enough to share a vintage family photo he has of him & his younger brother from the 1960's. Of course he is wearing the famous BATMAN COMIC BOOK LOGO T-shirt! How awesome is that?! I told Sam that I had that exact same T-Shirt when I was a little kid ( they must have sold millions of them ). These came out around the time of the 1966 TV Show. I think it's actually been awhile since we posted a Batman Tattoo but as soon as I saw this one I knew we had to feature it here. I contacted the owner & he was kind enough to allow us to post it. His name is Steve & this beautiful piece of art was done by a Tattoo Artist named Matthew Ward. It's a wacky-crazy graphic of Batman in his 1966 Batmobile "George Barris" Car with missiles shooting out of the back!! I say "wacky-crazy" because it's sort of done in the vintage 1960's "Rat-Fink Style". See how Batman is wayyyy bigger than the car & the gearshift knob is really huge? Plus, the tires are smokin' like crazy! This is really great &, as a tattoo, totally original... I love it! Thanks to both Steve & Matthew for allowing us to post it. You guys did an awesome job on it & I know many Batman Fans are going to completely love seeing it!
