Abrams Looking to Bring IMAX to ‘Star Wars Episode VII’

With the upcoming return to the Star Wars universe, there will likely be many changes to take advantage of newer and better technologies. While Kathleen Kennedy has already stated their intention to retreat from the all-CGI mess that haunted Episodes I through III and return to a more model and location based approach, that doesn't mean they'll be stepping all the way back. According a new rumor, it looks like J.J. Abrams has his eyes on IMAX to heighten the Star Wars Episode VII experience.

According to IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond, he is in talks with Abrams concerning the use of IMAX for the new flick. It only stands to reason that this would be on the agenda, especially considering Abrams used the format for his last movie, Star Trek Into Darkness.

Some may say that this goes against returning to what made the first three movies so visually appealing, though I have to wonder how much of Episode VII is going to truly throw so far back as to have the gritty neo-industrial feel that we love so much. What do the Nerd Readers think? Is there even a need to use IMAX?

Thanks to BleedingCool for the heads-up.
