How do I get in the Halo: Reach Beta?

A question that is going to get more and more popular is how do I get into the Halo: Reach Beta?

The official word from Bungie (who are making the game) is this:


"Buy Halo 3: ODST

and receive an invitation to participate in the Halo: Reach Xbox LIVE multiplayer beta. If you want in, hold onto your copy of Halo 3: ODST and stay tuned to Bungie.net and Xbox.com for more details."


So there you have it, don't flick off your copy of ODST to your best friend's little brother, hold on to it.


I predict a rise in sales of ODST both from retailers and second hand jobs on Ebay when the Beta entry timing is formally announced by Bungie.

Update: U may also access the beta if you have been a keen Halo 2 player. XBL members should have got an email which gives you all sorts of goodies...

Is the Haloverse getting too big?

Since Halo 2 set the standard for the marketing and hype of a computer game, the expectations for Halo 3 were huge. You could not turn the telly on without being told to "Believe" (we did!) or buy a Mountain Dew without the Master Chiefy starring back at you.


Since 2007 when Halo 3 was launched, the Halo franchise has become a truly global product. Halo Wars followed. A Graphic novel followed. A zillion model toys and figures and busts were made. ODST followed. Halo Reach was announced for 2010 and 343 Industries was created by Microsoft to manage the ever expanding Halo Universe. Halo Waypoint is now live and ready for download to your Xbox 360.


My point is Halo has become huge. Some might say its the Star Wars of its generation. That's a big call but you get the idea.


The question is, is there too much Halo? Is the Haloverse being diluted? Will the fans get overloaded with Spartan glory? People way ahead of me have already asked the question of Frank O'Connor. He's the former Bungie employee who sold his soul to the devil that is Microsoft. Well, that's how some may see it. I prefer to see him as the wise Yoda of the Haloverse, calmly guiding us Halo fans to gamer glory. Here's some Q&A with Frankie.


Yo Frankie: Do you ever worry about the franchise becoming over-saturated? How do you keep people interested in Halo?

Well, I mean, I worry about that constantly, but bluntly speaking, we just came off the launch of a game, and there's really no more material out there than there typically is. I think the big difference this time are the two projects you mentioned in terms of scale, which are Waypoint and Legends, which are a little bigger than the kind of support stuff and ancillary canonical stuff that we typically do year-in, year-out.
I mean, we have five New York Times best-selling novels, the encyclopedias you mentioned, one of Marvel's best-selling graphic novels, comic books series, all that stuff. All of that stuff has existed in the past, and it exists because of one simple reason, which is demand. So, we wouldn't make it if we weren't continually being asked for it via consumers and then via the partners that we talked about like Marvel and Tor Books. I worry about it all the time, and we obviously turn down almost infinitely more stuff than we actually produce, but when we produce it, there's a good reason, and a good plan, and a strong demand.

I don't suppose you could give an example of something you've turned down?

I can't, because it would be a big partner, but you know, you can imagine the kinds of things that we would turn down. For example, we made a Halo Risk game because it was based on Halo Wars, and Risk and real-time strategy kind of had a natural connection, and there was a strong demand for it. That's stuff's measured by the retailers and the partners that we license from. They get these requests. You know, they'll get a request from a store saying, "We want more Halo stuff. Can't you do anything in this genre?" So that one made sense, but we've had other requests to do board games that didn't make any sense. They didn't match the material. There was a demand for it, but if it doesn't actually make sense, and it's completely crazy, we won't do it.
So there you have it. If demand equals supply, Microsoft is prepared to release more Halo goodness on the universe, provided its a quality product. Which basically means one day they WILL give us the Halo equivalent of Ja Ja Binks.

Forza 3 Halo Reach Design

Forza Motorsport 3 is a racing simulator video game developed for Xbox 360. It was released in October 2009. It is the sequel to Forza Motorsport 2 and the third installment in the Forza Motorsport series.


The game gives players a chance to customise their vehicle. While there are no Warthogs or Mongeese on in Forza, one Halo: Reach fan came up with this swish design:

A Sexy Femme Greedo Cosplay From SDCC

Corinne Alexandra of Stuck With Pins did a sexy, badass Femme Greedo cosplay at SDCC and she sent us some pics and info on the "making of". You know we had to post it.

Take some time to read the reasons behind the making of this costume and you'll see hints of the "fake geek girl" debate that's been an ongoing thing recently.

The last two years I rocked the sexy Chewbacca costume I made in 2010. But as absurd as it sounds, scantily-clad wookiees apparently became an overabundant trend at the Con and some Reddit-trolling nerds got their whitey tighties in a twist over seeing their favorite walking carpet sexualized by "fake nerd girls." In response, I've set out to upset a few more Star Wars fans by sexualizing one of the most unsexy characters in the galaxy far far away - Greedo. Yes, our beloved overzealous bounty hunter with the infamous sloppy marksmanship.

I admit, sometimes I love when geek girls take on the fight in ways like this. Sexy and geeky don't have to be mutually exclusive. Good for her.

Gundam Seed: Natarle Badriguel

Natarle Badeiguel, one of the few survivors of ZAFT's Le Creuset's raid to seize the new weapons of the colony, is one of Earth Alliance's most loyal and promising young officers. She is the executive officer of the Archangel, a ship headed by Captain Murrue Ramius. She is a superb tactical analyst, a fine trait that made her a captain of her own ship, Dominion, after her former captain began to question the Earth Alliance's actions.

Natarle is one of my favorite character in the series. Most people don't really like her because of her cold nature, but I believe that's what makes her such a fine officer in the first place. Besides, I respect characters like her better than the Damsel in Distress types.

Sadly, she perished in Archangel's hands because of her blind loyalty to the Earth Alliance.

Pretty accurate cosplayer though, isn't she?

D.N.Angel: Dark Mousy

Jesuke really know how to do her cosplays...

This character is Dark Mousy from D.N.Angel. He is the alter ego of Niwa Daisuke, a shy and reserved 14-year-old typical school boy.

Dark is a phantom thief who steals the harmful Hikari Family art pieces. Although he always gives warnings as to when and where a particular robbery will occur, he has never been caught.

There are several different pictures of Jesuke as Dark Mousy in her Deviant Art account. Please have a visit there as well. I had to choose this picture because of the wing details... It's quite impressive, don't you think?

Fruits Basket: Honda Tohru

The protagonist that everyone in the Souma family seems to be drawn to, Honda Tohru was a homeless orphan who was adopted into Souma Shigure's household by a twist of fate. She is classmates and friends with the famous prince of their school Souma Yuki, and is now living with him!

You can probably imagine the horrors she has to go through in school with Yuki's fan club breathing down her neck.

Isn't she cute? This cosplayer looks so much like Tohru! Aw... No wonder all the Souma family members (including Akito eventually) are drawn to her!

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi: Nagato Yuki

The alien who was recruited in the S.O.S. Brigade, Nagato Yuki is an expert in electronic equipment and can practically do anything Haruhi asks her to do.

Take for example that one episode... Haruhi needed someone to play lead guitar in a school presentation as she sings an original song made by their upperclassmen. She took one look at the notes, picked up the guitar, and played like she's practiced long and hard for that day. Amazing isn't it?

Nagato isn't wearing their usual school uniform here because this was the episode where they had to play a game against the computer club. Something like a battleship game...

Cute cosplayer isn't she? She really has that Nagato blank stare... It's quite captivating.

Blood+: Miyagusuku Kai

Eldest of the Miyasuguku siblings, Kai was once a popular student and a star athlete. Shortly before Saya's arrival, he was more rebellious and got into fights in school. His father's kidnap and death forced him to grow up quickly and make amends with Saya and Riku, his 2 adopted siblings. He struggled to keep his only family together and eventually even took in Diva's daughters as their father.

Quite an impressive, though simple cosplay. He is quite an interesting character, though I need to finish watching the series to find out what happens to him more... Great job! And I must say, I love that motorcycle!

Naruto: Mitarashi Anko

Mitarashi Anko, a former student of Orochimaru and bearer of one of his "cursed seals" (Orochimaru's jutsu). After learning that Orochimaru was merely using her as a tool, Anko left Orochimaru and allowed him to erase her memories of her time together with her teacher. She is now the proctor of the second phase of the chunin exams and hates Orochimaru with a passion.

Really love the simplicity of this cosplay. She really caught Anko's character. Her pose and the composition of the photograph is nice too. Wish I could see more of the costume though...

Tekken 5: Kazama Asuka

More commonly known as the cousin of Kazama Jin, Asuka is a brash, arrogant girl who has strong confidence in her fighting abilities. As a young child, she is trained by her father taught her the Kazama-style Traditional Martial Arts. She is a vigilante of sorts, who prefers to stop fights by "knock out", although in the Play Station 2's Tekken 5 opening, she's seen saving a little kitty. She enters the Tekken 5 tournament in order to redeem her dojo and get her revenge.

Cute cosplayer of Asuka! Really like her hair and outfit. I know a lot of Tekken fans will be pleased.

Sakura Taisen: Maria Tachibana

Maria Tachibana, the original leader of the Hanagumi, is the only one with prior experience of military warfare. Having witnessed her captain and father figure sacrifice himself to save their troop, she became emotionally cold and desired to work alone. This earned her the title of "Kazuar", which means phoenix in the Russian Revolutionary War.

Very impressive. I love the details in the uniform and her beautiful hair! All that's left is her signature weapon, the revolver.

Spirited Away: Ogino Chihiro (Sen) and Nigihayama Kohaku Nushi (Haku)

A young girl is taken away from the real world and finds herself in the entrance of the Spirit World. Chihiro must find a way out before she forgets who she is completely and becomes trapped in the Spirit World.She meets a young boy named Haku who helps her and keeps her from loosing herself to the Spirit World. He is actually the Spirit of the river known as Kohaku, and Chiharu helped him remember his real name and past, freeing him from Yubaba's curse.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi: Suzumiya Haruhi 02

Suzumiya Haruhi in her cheerleading outfit. I think I like this better than the first one. I can't remember if she did have a cheerleading episode anymore... It's been a while since I saw this series.

I've heard there a second season of The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. I wonder if they're going to juggle the episodes again like they did the first season? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Tantei Gakuen Q: Amakusa Ryu

Tantei Gakuen Q, also known as Detective School Q, is a story about class Q from the prestigious detective academy, Dan Detective School founded by Dan Morihiko, the most famous detective in Japan.

Ryu is an intelligent student who has links with the "murder designers" organization, Pluto. Although he is cold and distant as a child, he is friendly with the students of Class Q, especially Renjo Kyu, the star student.

I really miss this series. Ryu was my favorite character and the anime didn't really mention what happened to Ryu and Pluto in the end. Did anyone read the manga? What happened in the ending?

Ouran High School Host Club: Hitachiin Hikaru and Hitachiin Kaoru

The "little devil" types of the Ouran High School Host Club, Hitachiin Hikaru and Hitachiin Kaoru are the twins who show their "forbidden brotherly love" to their customers, do the delight of many girls.
The brothers are quite an interesting pair who rely on each other through moments of loneliness. They are cynical to the world and they do not trust anyone. This is due to a certain event in their past involving their favorite maid.
They love playing the "Which is Hikaru?" game that no one ever gets correctly once they mess us each other's hair styles. The only one who could tell them apart correctly is Fujioka Haruhi.
I wonder if these cosplayers are twins too? Can anyone guess which is Hikaru?

Loveless: Aoyagi Seimei

The mysterious older brother of Aoyagi Ritsuka, Seimei's personality has a lot of different interpretations canonically. To Soubi, who serves as his fighter, Seimei is kind and gentle; to the members of Nanatsu no tsuki, Beloved was cruel and sadistic. Ritsuka could only remember him as the one who protected him from their abusive mother.

What could Seimei be really like? Since the manga is still on going, there's no real info about him yet. But there was one thing that was apparently confirmed: Seimei is still alive, and the person who died in his place was only identified by his dental records.

I wasn't too sure if this was Ritsuka or Seimei, but his hair is long enough to be Seimei's I think. The cat ears are really cute too, don't you think?

Tsubasa - Reservoir Chronicle: Fay D. Flourite

I am so annoyed that I can't see the cosplayer's face here. But for Fay to now show his face is actually very characteristic.

Fay is one of Syaoran's allies. He is happy-go-lucky and carefree, but is very mysterious, in the sense that he seems to have little regard for his own life. He can be very perceptive and is considered to be as skillful as Kurogane. He also often hides his own unhappiness with a fake smile.

I've been wondering if I should post this or not when I found it on Flickr. Mainly because I seldom feature cosplayers who don't show their face, give or take a few. I still find this pretty, though!

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion: C.C.

The immortal with the power of Geass, C.C. is a willful girl who does anything she wants regardless of what other people might think. She does, however, have one weakness: pizza, specifically from Pizza Hut. She also carries a round a stuffed toy of Pizza Hut's mascot, "Cheese-kun". She becomes Lelouch's accomplice to his rebellion after he made a Geass contract with her.

I should catch up with this series, which is already on Season 2. Writing this is actually making me craze for pizza right about now; I think that's what I'll have for lunch. Thank you to Kelly for sending me the photo that she found on Flickr! Thank you, too, for sharing!

Loveless: Agatsuma Soubi 04

A fighter's role is to follow everything his sacrifice orders him to. With Soubi's case, who is a blank fighter that can serve any sacrifice, he appears to be following Ritsuka's every command, and yet he refuses to speak about Seimei's death.

Why would he do something like that?

Because to him, Seimei's words are absolute.

I love how this picture was composed. A lot of fans know that Soubi, despite being associated with butterflies, adores flowers. How does this compare to the three other Soubi cosplayers I've featured in this blog? I think I like all of them honestly. Awesome job on this one!

D. Gray-man: Lavi, Allen Walker, Kanda Yu, and Lenalee Lee

The Exorcists of the Black Order, Lavi, Allen Walker, Kanda Yu, and Lenalee Lee aim to stop the Millenium Earl from cleansing the Earth by means of destroying it.

The series' main character, Allen Walker, has the ability to control "Innocence", a weaponized form of a divine substance from ages past. Allen proves to be an important companion thanks to his cursed eye, which is able to detect the Akuma who walk along side humans.

It's rare to find a nice group cosplay. I'm not familiar with this anime though, so I'm wondering why Lenalee isn't wearing her hair in pigtails here? Or maybe the angle of the photo.

Inuyasha: Inuyasha and Sesshomaru

Half-brothers, each fulfilling his own destiny. Neither of them are right, and neither of them are wrong, for they only fight for what they believe in to be right and true.

I'm just a little sad this photo is so small and that we can't see their faces too well. But I really like how this photo was taken. I wonder if anyone knows where to get a higher resolution of this? ;) And how do they compare to the other Inuyasha and Sesshomaru I've posted before?

Sailor Moon S: Sailor Neptune 02

The "Miss Congeniality" of the Sailor Senshi, Kaioh Michiru, whom is commonly referred as Sailor Neptune is a polite, calm, and sophisticated person who is very intelligent and gifted in art and music. She is often seen along side Teno Haruka (Sailor Uranus) to which several controversies have sprung from.

It's been a while since I've seen pretty Senshi cosplayers. I've only got to see a couple of episodes of Sailormoon S, but I heard it was the best of the series. Anyway, great work on this! I really like her wig and eyes. It's quite perfect, don't you think?

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children: Cloud Strife 03

This is the third Cloud cosplayer I've seen that's taken my breath away.

It's a simple shot, but very artistic. Cloud does have a tendency to go about by himself to think things through, and this is why I think this photo captures Cloud's personality perfectly.

Onegai My Melody ~Kuru Kuru Shuffle!~: Hiiragi Jun

The energetic younger brother of the infamous violinist, Hiiragi Keiichi, Hiiragi Jun tries his best to outdo his brother in every way, often failing in the process. He appears in the end of the first season arriving in from America and becomes Kuromi's source of power in the second season, Kuru Kuru Shuffle!

I'm very impressed at the details with Jun's hair this cosplayer was able to achieve! No doubt it took a lot of patience to get it to look just right. Good job!

Fate/Hollow Ataraxia: Dark Saber

Consumed by the darkness provided by Avenger (who was thought to be Angara Mainyu at the time), Dark Saber is the servant of Mato Sakura. Her original Master, Emiya Shiro, later had to make the bitter choice of killing Saber in order to save her from her misery; a fate she gladly accepted.

Beautiful costume! I found this on Flickr the other day, and the cosplayer's name is Calssara there. Most of her photos had descriptions saying the costume is for a German Convention, so maybe she's German? Either way, she makes a great Saber! Good job!

Hikaru no Go: Kishimoto Kaoru

The president of the Go Club in Kaio Middle school, Kishimoto Kaoru was a former insei who did not become a professional Go player. Kaoru is known for having the ability to read his opponent's habits and weaknesses, an observation he uses to attack them directly. He is also well known for his love of black coffee.

It took me a while to try and figure out who this character is. I was only able to read some chapters of this manga and I wasn't able to read about this character at all. I did remember Toya Akira going to Kaio Middle School though, so it gave me a clue as to who he was.

Great job on this cosplay! I love the attitude the cosplayer is projecting...

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Rei 03

The child who's origins are purposefully left a mystery, Ayanami Rei is a quiet girl who often keeps to herself. She resembles Ikari Shinji's mother, Ikari Yui, and often acts motherly towards him, despite being (or "appearing to be") the same age. It is stated in the Red Cross Book that Rei was actually created from the salvaged remains of Yui after she was absorbed into the Unit 01 in 2004.

I'm not sure if Sanriotown moderators will mind posting a picture like this, but in case there is a problem, do let me know so I can take this down? I don't want to make any trouble... But she makes a really impressive Rei!

The World Ends With You: Hanekoma Sanae

The owner of the Shibuya Cafe Shop in The World Ends With You, little is known about Hanekoma Sanae. He is known to help Neku and Joshua several times in the game, but no one knows how or where he gets his information.

That is, of course, until you reach the end of the game.

I've yet to finish this game, since I'm still hunting for more pins to use. I gotta say though, this cosplay is really impressive. He really reminds me of the character. Great job! And thanks to crashwire for sharing the photo!

Lucky Star: Hiiragi Kagami

The older twin sister of Tsuakasa, Kagami (who is sometimes referred as "Kagamin") is a friend of Konata's and Miyuki's who loves to read light novels and play shoot 'em up games. She is in a different classroom than the other main characters of Lucky Star; much to her distress since she even chose the same course in her second year in hopes of being with them.

Kagami studies very hard and is somewhat egotistical. Konata often pesters Kagamin to allow her to copy her homework or tutor her when the exams and/or the due date for summer homework is just around the corner.

Cute cosplay. I found this when I was browsing through Photobucket. I wonder who the cosplayer is?
