Often called " " (pronounced "nineball"), Cirno is a childlike ice fairy which ZUN labeled in the manual of Phantasmagoria of Flower View " " as a symbol of "Baka" (Stupid). Arguably, she is not very bright due to her inexperience and age. She is considered to be the strongest of her kind, but is not a difficult opponent to defeat.
So cute! It looks like she might freeze something... or someone at any moment! Thanks to Ophelia for sending this in!
Classmates and neighbors, Kurumi Erika and Hanasaki Tsubomi are in their second year of Junior High School. Tsubomi loves every plant and would have joined the gardener's club in her school, but she was forced to join the fashion club where Erika is the president of. Both girls began to change and mature as their friendship develops throughout the series.
That's just so cute. And the cosplayers look like they're really enjoying themselves. Thanks to Jamie for sending this!
One of the main characters of Touhou Project, Hakurei Reimu is easygoing, curious, and somewhat dutiful. She is the Shrine Maiden of Hakurei Shrine which probably explains why is is sympathetic towards many people. Reimu also tends to be overly optimistic, and her shrine has become a popular hangout for some of Gensokyo's more interesting females.
Cute cosplayer! Certainly a rival for the previously featured Reimus. Thanks to Zero Haven for sending this!
A skilled tactician with a promiscuous personality, Ryoufu is a strong fighter who has a habit of dressing skimpy. Although she tried her best to escape her destiny, she ended up causing it anyway. She is afflicted with a deadly illness that would kill her before she even reaches adulthood.
Made a mistake in labeling this feature, and I apologize for that. Thanks to akadirgun for the correction and to Jamie for the contribution!
This cosplayer's outfit is certainly unique. It reminds me of a captain's uniform in the Gundam series and a futuristic French maid of some sort. Maybe the fan she's carrying holds some kind of clue to her identity?
The illustration of a girl behind her looks scarily intimidating as well... Anyone have a good guess? Thanks to Wendy for sending this in!
EDIT: Thanks to anon for letting me know she is Rindou Rina from Pastel Chime Continue!
The parenthetic question mark in the headline is meant to imply "take the following with a grain of salt." But according to Comic Book Movie.com, a highly placed Marvel Source has given them some compelling leaks from the supposed Phase 3 script of Doctor Strange, one of the new projects that Marvel is expected to tackle following the release of The Avengers 2 in the summer of 2015.
So what's the origin of this insight? CBM calls them a, "Marvel source who is close to the development of the film." Still, one must wonder the veracity of this source and this information: wouldn't pages from a script like this be on lockdown, numbered to each specific individual who has access to it? And say there was some tacit approval to share? What's the upside? We're not likely to see this movie for three or four years.
I know, I know, you're all chomping at the bit to see what insight into the film is revealed from these three leaked script pages. That's fine. As paraphrased by CBM, this is what the first three minutes of Doctor Strange might look like:
"Nick Fury and SHIELD locate a strong power reading from a mountain in Tibet. Another person is in the same room with Fury and also sees a green-like radiation pulsing from the mountain and asks Fury is it's terrestrial. Fury says it is being analyzed but he hasn't seen such a power surge since Bruce Banner had an accident with Gamma Rays. Fury concludes by saying the Black Widow is in the vicinity and will investigate but until she sends a report, SHIELD is not sure what the proper response is at the moment.
"Then, the third page starts with Doctor Strange begin tired and goes to lay down for the night and in the morning is awakened by his trusted partner Wong. Strange is brought some coffee. Strange sits up and has some menial banter with Wong and grabs a newspaper. The first headline on the paper talks about a giant earthquake in New York, while the second headline says that Tony Stark is officially Iron Man. His response to the Stark headline is, 'Lucky bastard.'"
So the film opens in '08? Is that the gist here? Do we have to now tie every single, last Marvel film together in a neat little package? Easter eggs are fine, but I hope this whole thing where Stephen Strange reads the paper about Tony Stark's coming out as Iron Man gets lost in re-writers. What else do I hope gets lost? The proposed subtitle "Eye See You." Get it? As in the Eye of Agamotto amulet. Take that subtlety! Calling the film "Doctor Strange: Eye See You" sounds more like a low-budget direct-to-video effort than a major studio release, at least to me.
So far, kind of unimpressed. But that's just my opinion. What do you Bastards think?
There seems to be a lot of Doctor Strange news/rumor mongering making the rounds lately, and I guess it was only a matter of time before "sources" started to float the idea about who might play the Sorcerer Supreme in an upcoming film. Well internet, let me introduce you to this concept: Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Doctor Stephen Strange.
Our source once again is Latino Review who says that "Marvel execs internally are discussing that Levitt is who they figure would be ideal." That's problematic both grammatically and logically. While Gordon-Levitt is certainly an impressive actor, at 32 years young isn't a little youthful to be playing Doctor Strange, who's always shown to have a little grey in his hair. I suppose there is such a thing as artistic license, but Marvel's usually played it pretty straight with their adaptations so far.
Of course, this wouldn't be the first brush for Gordon-Levitt with something comic book-y. He played John Blake, AKA: Robin, in The Dark Knight Rises, and was (sort of) Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
Keep in mind that there's still nothing official about a Doctor Strange movie other than talk, so this one, for now, goes strictly in the "rumor" folder.
But seriously, do you Bastards think JGL would make a good Doctor Strange? Sound off below.
So you folks all remember the rumormill going wild back when the Evil Dead remake hit the screens? Remember Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell talking about how they would like to continue the story of Ash following the events of Army of Darkness? Well, it looks like we will get to find out what happened to our beloved chainsaw-hand hero, although perhaps not quite the way we were expecting. It appears that Army of Darkness will be continuing, albeit in a comic book format. Check out all the Ashy goodness after the jump.
The project is being put together by Steve Niles, writer of 30 Days of Night, and will be published by Dynamite Comics. The title of the new story - Ash and the Army of Darkness. The events of the comic will pick up where the movie left off, though it looks like they'll be using the original ending instead of the (in my opinion much better) alternate ending where Ash gets flung far into the future. Check out what Niles had to say about it below:
What I'm doing with Ash and the Army of Darkness is a complete reboot. We start and the last frame of the film and then go right to the next. It's a wild ride and I think fans of the film will be very happy because I am bringing back a lot of what made the movie so fun. My run of Ash and the Army of Darkness takes place almost entirely in the 1300 s setting. That was what made Army of Darkness stand apart. I'm hoping readers agree.
How Niles plans on returning Ash to the past to fight even more undead baddies remains to be seen, but if the following art is any indicator, it looks like he'll be taking the entire S-Mart back with him. No word on when the new comic will be ready to go, but Dynamite will be present at San Diego Comic Con, so we can probably expect more then. Until that time, enjoy the artwork!
In years past the Yautja, the trophy-hunting alien species of the Predator franchise, had become a bit of a side-character thanks to films like Alien Vs. Predator. In 2010 s Predators, the alien hunters were once again deadly, and with the help of writers Alex Litvak and Michael Finch and director Nimr d Antal, people were getting the R-rated Predators we should have been seeing on screen for years. Since then it's been quiet, but maybe it's time to start hunting again.
Back in September Predators producer, Robert Rodriquez said he "owed the studio a call" about the Fox sequel, saying he always had a planned sequel in mind. With that being said, this past weekend on the Predators official Facebook page a promotional image featuring the quote, "There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die," and the hashtag #HuntThePredator surfaced. Fox must have gotten his call as the keen eyes at Comic Book Movie pointed out the quote, uttered by Predator character Billy Sole, was featured over an overhead shot of Petco Park, near the San Diego Convention Center. This has led many to believe that Fox will make an announcement in connection to the franchise.
With them hosting a series of panels to promote and showcase their upcoming films, including X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and The Wolverine, wouldn't it be a prime opportunity to make such an announcement? The only other question is, what is it?
Some are guessing it will be something new in the line of Predator feature films with Robert's promise of a sequel. Others think it could be a new video game, due to the viral marketing of how this all developed. Honestly, were hoping it's the former, seeing as the studio did such a good job and video games based on this franchise have never fared too well. We'll have to see what Fox pulls out of their skulls in the next few days in order to know for sure.

The land of Hollywood is one incestuous place and this has only become worse with the rise of the super hero film. Rumors abound of what production companies may or may not be snatching up what actors, and much of the time they seem to revolve around stealing said actors away from other, competing super-hero producing studios. This time around, Aaron Eckhart, in a recent interview with Nuke the Fridge, has hinted at the possibility of working with Marvel in the future.
Best known in geek circles for playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face over at the Warner Bros. camp, Eckhart certainly has the geek-cred to play most any comic role they give him and still maintain support from the fans. As a valuable, audience-drawing asset, it wouldn't be a surprise if Marvel was trying to grab him up
Check out the interview below to hear a little of what Eckhart has to say about living in the super hero genre:
Well, he did mention that Marvel may be interested... but other than that, there's really nothing there. Marvel may be thinking about using him, but the when, where and what-not of it isn't even on the table yet. You may all return to your normal dose of reality now.
The Oculus Rift is one of the most exciting display tools ever produced, at least to game developers. Games ranging from BioShock Infinite to Dear Esther are being adapted to the device. But probably one of the more notorious titles will be Custom Maid 3D, partially because combined with its controller you've got pretty much the worst possible stereotype of virtual reality.
Custom Maid 3D is a game that all we really have to tell you is that it's dirty and you get the idea. Just to make things worse, it's controlled with the Ju-C Air. Again, if the name weren't a big enough hint, we just have to show it to you...
And you know exactly what it's used for. Yes, there's an analog stick at the... top. We don't particularly want to think about the force feedback on this thing.
Anyway, because this game wasn't nearly creepy enough, the developers just gave it Oculus Rift support. No, wait, we can add to the creep factor here: The Oculus Rift has yet to announce an actual consumer release date, so the only way this came together was these guys buying a development kit off the Kickstarter. So they saw the Kickstarter and went "Dude, score!"
There is, of course, another porn game in development for the rift, because of course there is, but apparently Custom Maid 3D has officially taken the title of First Porn Game and Official Recipient of Every Cheap "The Holodeck Will End Dating As We Know It" Joke. Also those Japanese stereotypes are reinforced just that little bit more! Uh... congrats?
Soulfire Photography brings you Hel. Hel from SMITE that is! SMITE is a third person multiplayer online battle arena video game where you become mythological deities. Cosplayer Stephanie Pierce did an amazing job capturing the look of Hel and Soulfire Photography did a superb job with these two photos.
A full expansion to Dragon's Dogma, entitled Dark Arisen, was released for PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on April 23, 2013. Dark Arisen is not considered a DLC, but rather an enhanced version of the original game with new features, and the Bitterblack Isle zone to quest. You do not need to own the original game to play Dark Arisen, the original game is included on both physical and digital versions. Dark Arisen includes a new fast travel system, as well as new items, weapons and armor. Dragon's Dogma was my personal favorite game of 2012. And when they announced the expansion for this game, I was ecstatic.
For those unfamiliar with the original game, the story is that you are a normal villager until a dragon attacks your village. You try to fend off the attacking dragon, only to be defeated, and your heart is stolen by the beast. In miraculous way you live, and become known as The Arisen. You later learn you are connected to these beings called Pawns. They are loyal servants who look like humans, but are not. They live to serve you, and only you. You then go on an adventure to learn more about yourself, get stronger, and eventually meet up with the dragon for the final battle.
This game is an unique RPG. You can freely fight your enemies, and one thing that is rare, you can jump onto monsters you are fighting, climb them, and attack them from wherever you are on their body. Pawns are also essential to fighting these monsters. You create your own unique pawn, and you may also borrow pawns from The Rift, the pawns' dimension. If your friends also play the game, you can use their pawns as well.
u get your choice of class. You can start off with Fighter, a melee fighter who uses shields and swords, Strider, who uses bows and daggers, or Mage, who specializes in magic. Once you reach a higher level you can further develop these vocations with one another for advanced classes such as Warrior, who uses two handed weapons, Ranger, that use Longbows, or Sorcerer, who uses advanced magic. You can also mix two of these classes for the hybrid classes. These classes include Mystic Knight, Assassin, or Magick Archer.
There are stores in which you can buy and sell items. Blacksmiths can forge weapons and armor for you, as well as upgrade items. This game has high re-playability. Once you beat the Dragon you reach the "Endgame" where you can fight all the bosses you want to farm equipment, and items. Alternately, you can restart the story on Hard mode, or Speedrun mode. You will keep all your weapons and armor as well as your pawn.
For Dark Arisen, the update has critical gameplay changes. For example, enemy A.I is much more intelligent. They will change up attack patterns, and strategies. Also the new location, Bitterblack Isle, will be a challenge to both newcomers and veteran players. As you traverse down the isle you will find opponents, but one thing that sets this location from the rest is that the further down you go, the harder it gets. During big fights, as you fight off multiple opponents at once, the isle will summon stronger foes to attack you. This can result in on a few different gameplay changes. Now not only will you be taking on a group of enemies, you will now fight a stronger sub-boss, or potentially boss character.
Many new monsters appear in this expansion such as the Cursed Dragon, Eliminator, Death, The Gazer, Garm, and the new final boss of Bitter Black Isle, Daimon. These monster have unique play-styles, so learning each one of their fighting styles will be a challenge considering how strong they are. With the original game on disc, and all the gameplay changes and updates, it is really worth to pick this game up.
Another great thing about this game is that the community for this game that developed on the official Facebook page has to be the most active video game community I have ever seen. It seems that everyone loves this game, and you will easily find people to help you play this game by giving tips, tricks, and even lending you their pawns to use. If you are a fan of RPGs but looking for something different than the norm, I suggest you give this game a shot (especially at a price point of $40.) I highly recommend it and give Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen 5 out of 5.
Second weekend into the year, 10 cons - comic, sci-fi, anime, even a Xena Warrior Princess con ! Most are three day cons. Check the links for more details and as always if I missed any con, let me know !
Myself, I *might* check out Xena Con in my own backyard of Burbank, CA.
Ahn!Con (Kansas City, MO) Albuquerque Comic Con (Albuquerque, NM) Jan 12-13 Apex (New Brunswick, NJ) Atlanta South Comic Con (McDonough,GA) Jan 13th Black Comic Book Festival (New York City) Jan 12th HRM Steampunk Symposium (Long Beach, LA) Ichibancon Pt. 2 (Charlotte, NC) Illogicon ii (Cary, NC) KotoriCon (Sewell, NJ) Jan 12th SwampCon (Gainesville, FL) Jan 12-13 Xena Con (Burbank, CA)
The first weekend of 2013 bought out 10 different cons spread out in the United States. This year, I decided to check out Taiyou Con, a pretty new anime convention located at a Hilton in Mesa, AZ. Personally, I've only driven through the state and done layovers at their airport so pretty curious to see how cons are like in Arizona. Gackto help paved the way to getting me to there. Gackto is a cosplayer/photographer whom I met at different cons across the country - perhaps you seen him around ?
I first heard of this con through this video "a mini Japan" I found on Youtube. It was pretty bad. But so bad it was hilarious. Hilariously funny bad. See for yourself !
- More + photos after the jump -
(Map on the back of badge, yay !) TaiyouCon has been on the scene since 2011 - so it is a new kid on the block. The con is hosted at the Hilton Phoenix East - funny enough, I was at another Hilton for Ikkicon last week. The con is laid out pretty easily. Everything is on one floor. Pretty awesome is the fact a map of the con is on the back of the badge ! Definitely helpful ! Wanna know where Fiesta Room is ? Look on the back ! How about bathrooms ? Look on the back ! More cons should seriously do this - though for the super big cons, it probably is difficult to squeeze all the info on the back of the badge.
Attendance numbers I could find says around 1,500. I'm terrible at guessing numbers but I will say that in about 2 years or so, they may have to move venues. At times it felt packed but not San Diego Comic Con packed.
Guests at this con : Sonny Strait, Christina Vee, Tristen Citrine, Chris Guerrero, Maridah and Lauren Landa. I had the chance to meet Tristen back at Cos & Effect in Vancouver last year. Chris Guerrero, I got to know at a room party during the con and met Sonny & Christina on the way back to the airport. Maridah, I've known for years - she's in my first book.
(Masquerade)
(J-Fashion Show)
(Atrium where Artist Alley is. Early AM) Artist Alley takes up a big chunk of the con. It circles the atrium of the hotel and there's a bar right in the middle in case you need some refreshments. About 45 artists were registered and at times, AA was pretty dang packed. The panel rooms were lined up on one side of the atrium as well as the gaming room hosted by AZHP. Panels include Yaoi Pajama Party to Figuring Drawing Q&As to Bronies : The Fandom. Pretty much panels you may see at every con ... and yes, there was a Homestuck panel too :) The dealer hall was at the far end of the hotel and I admit, it is tiny compared to ones I've been to. I believe there was around 10 vendors there. If you are looking for vendor stuff, this con won't have enough but if you're looking for local artist stuff - this place definitely is the place ! Other things that annoyed me : when it get dark, the atrium lighting is that sickly yellow parking garage light that just is blah. Not the fault of the con but just kinda annoys me. Another thing I've seen at other cons and hope they do here is t-shirts for the volunteers so you can tell who they are. At times, I wasn't sure who was who. I spend most of my time talking to people. The best thing about smaller cons is I just have more time to talk. If you catch me at a bigger show like Otakon or Anime Expo, I have to limit my chats to around 5 minutes. Here I could chat for half a hour and it's totally fine. The one thing I picked up was the folks here are really nice. Surprisingly nice. Don't get me wrong, folks at anime cons in general tend to be open but here, maybe because it is such a tight-knit community, everyone seems to know everyone else. Staffers from other cons are either working at this con or hanging out at this con.
My artist alley neighbor Anabel Martinez was one of the sweetest folks I've met. She and her friend Joe from Phoenix Comicon (apparently he's just known as Joe from PCC ???) took me and another friend to check out Gotham City Comics & Coffee as well as a bar called Monsterland. Also finally had a chance to meet Almost Focused, a local cosplay photographer here in AZ. Met some of the gals of Banzai Productions, saw Jessica Nigri as well as Aicosu whom I met before at another con plus a ton of other people.
( More derptastic photos can be found at instagram.com/cosplayamerica) Cosplay-wise,you'll get everything under the sun here. I was surprised at the amount of cosplay that caught my eye. Some standout ones are Ren & Len (Victorian version ?), Homestuck maids, Sergeant Calhoun + Fix It Felix, Gambit, Zack Brannigan and Kip but there was so much to see and I missed a lot. Surprisingly you would figure you catch everything because of the size of the con but looking online afterwards, I'm scratching my head and going how did I miss that ?!? As usual, Jack Frost is turning out to be a big trend. So maybe around 8 as well as a male Jack Frost cosplayer. Even saw a Lady Gaga cosplayer - something I haven't seen in a while. Would I recommend this con ? Definitely if you live locally - locally meaning about 3 hour drive. I'm planning to come back to Phoenix. the two other cons I like to check out is SabotenCon and Phoenix Comicon. Should you travel in from out of state for this con ? Surprisingly I've met a few folks not from Arizona at this con. I probably say if you have friends who live in Phoenix, come on out to visit them and while here, go to a con ! In two weeks I'll be in New Jersey for Cosplay in America exhibition at Kean University. Full details here. If you enjoy what I do, please support me by purchasing through the links to the right top (underneath the instagram/twitter feed). Currently I'm an affiliate with B&H Photo, J-List, Amazon and Borrow Lens. I get a small percentage of whatever you purchase if you go through my links.

The BAT-BLOG.COM has a Friend over on Facebook named Erik who lives in Denmark. Erik was kind enough to send us some very cool photos of his BATMAN TATTOO Art. It looks like he has the DARK KNIGHT MOVIE Logo on the center of his back, the Classic Bat-Logo on his right shoulder, and I think the most recent is the BATMAN FIGURE on his lower back. The artwork is really cool. Now, that's a Serious Bat-Fan!! Thanks Erik for sharing these pics and please let the Tattoo Artists know that we think they have done an excellent job on all of these!
For a very long time I've been wondering what some of the "Promotional Art" for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will look like. This is the stock illustration artwork used on merchandise & advertising promos. Well, here it is! Here are a few random examples recently found & there's even a photo of an actual item, a cool BATMAN Lunch Box by Thermos. OK, TDKR products should start surfacing soon so if anybody ( that includes YOU ) sees ANYTHING BATMAN in Retail Stores then please let us know! Remember, sharing the joys of collecting Batman Toys and Stuff is what the BAT-BLOG.COM is all about!
OK, It's a little late in the day but it's still Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!! Here are some FREE BATMAN WALLPAPER BACKGROUNDS you might enjoy. To make them, I used some Promo Art originally created for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES movie merchandise. One of them is a brand-new "Batman on his Bat-Pod Motorcycle" Toy that I think will probably be made by Mattel. The other is some standard Promotional Artwork.
