Celebrate Archaelogy With This Belloq Tee

“So once again, Jones, what was briefly yours is now mine.”

Even though Ren Belloq was the squirrelly sort, you almost couldn’t help but like him. He was charming in his way – just a bit misguided. Okay, maybe more than a bit. If he would’ve stayed on the right path though, he could have done great things. This t-shirt honors his memory and is a nice obscure reference that will make Indiana Jones fans flock to your side with compliments.

New ‘The Walking Dead’ Season Three Clip and Superbowl Ad

TWDs03_04

The countdown for the return of the second half of season three for AMC and Robert Kirkman‘s The Walking Dead is in the final stretch, so expect to see more teasers, clips, commercials, and production stills as the marketing machine kicks into overdrive. It’ll all culminate with a recap marathon of The Walking Dead season three just hours before the February 10th premiere at 9PM on AMC. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on anything you’ve missed so far or just refresh your memory.

First off we’ve got a clip featuring a look at the new arrivals to the prison and their introduction to the baby.

id="flashObj" width="600" height="340" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://c.brightcove.com/services/viewer/federated_f9?isVid=1" flashVars="videoId=2141883854001&playerID=83327935001&playerKey=AQ~~,AAAAAAuyCbQ~,-gfAmfm8njJ8S-9E4q2UfzG931rvkxuP&domain=embed&dynamicStreaming=true" base="http://admin.brightcove.com" seamlesstabbing="false" allowFullScreen="true" swLiveConnect="true" allowScriptAccess="always" flashvars="videoId=2141883854001&playerID=83327935001&playerKey=AQ~~,AAAAAAuyCbQ~,-gfAmfm8njJ8S-9E4q2UfzG931rvkxuP&domain=embed&dynamicStreaming=true" allowfullscreen="true" swliveconnect="true" allowscriptaccess="always" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" />

That awkward pause at the end is fantastic, did you notice Hershel, well everyone, looking back toward Carl? Even the most innocent questions become conversational land mines in the Zombie Apocalypse.

In case you missed it, (I sat through the whole Superbowl just waiting to see this commercial and then found out it was only aired on Time Warner Cable. Go frack yourself, AMC Marketing Manager that buys ad space.), here’s the entire Superbowl ad that only aired on Time Warner Cable.

id="flashObj" width="600" height="340" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://c.brightcove.com/services/viewer/federated_f9?isVid=1" flashVars="videoId=2142058280001&linkBaseURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amctv.com%2Fthe-walking-dead%2Fvideos%2Ftime-warner-cable-super-bowl-ad-the-walking-dead&playerID=83327935001&playerKey=AQ~~,AAAAAAuyCbQ~,-gfAmfm8njJ8S-9E4q2UfzG931rvkxuP&domain=embed&dynamicStreaming=true" base="http://admin.brightcove.com" seamlesstabbing="false" allowFullScreen="true" swLiveConnect="true" allowScriptAccess="always" flashvars="videoId=2142058280001&linkBaseURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amctv.com%2Fthe-walking-dead%2Fvideos%2Ftime-warner-cable-super-bowl-ad-the-walking-dead&playerID=83327935001&playerKey=AQ~~,AAAAAAuyCbQ~,-gfAmfm8njJ8S-9E4q2UfzG931rvkxuP&domain=embed&dynamicStreaming=true" allowfullscreen="true" swliveconnect="true" allowscriptaccess="always" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" />

It’s a great little commercial, although that family keeps a lot of fresh meat around the house. I wouldn’t recommend that for the average Zombie Apocalypse Survivor family. Seriously though, AMC could have had a whole Superbowl marketing campaign, imagine sending a Zombie Reporter to Superbowl Player Media day, or two zombies, one wearing a Ravens jersey, one wearing a 49′ers, fighting over a human head in a mock Zombie football game.

Another group of production stills have come out from the first episode of the second half of season three, The Suicide King. We get a look at what kind of madness we can expect from The Walking Dead for the remainder of season three. All indicators point toward a manic, bloody, insanely gory thrill ride, you’ll know where to find me on Sunday nights at 9PM.

Nerd Art Dump: Stephanie Brown Times Two, Nerdist vs. Doctor Who, Retro Cylons & MOAR!

Each and every week we scour the Internet for nothing but the best in nerd based art. We leave no digital stone unturned, we poke and prod every net based nook and cranny. Why? Because we love you, and we love to bring you weekly Nerd Art Dumps.

Na na na na na na na na, Batgirls! – Well, one Batgirl and a Robin anyways, but a single Stephanie Brown. We here at Nerd Bastards HQ love the work of Lynne Yoshii, having featured her here several times before, but featuring the former Spoiler turned third Batgirl with her past self is pretty damn cool. When your originally a three-issue deal and you become one of the biggest female characters in comics you know your doing something right. [Comics Alliance]

Hit the jump for Spider-Man, Ginny Weasley and MOAR!

Venom is a dick. Just look at the drawing by totmoartsstudio2 and you’ll see what we mean. All Spider-Man wants is some time alone to himself but Venom just doesn’t know when to let go. Guess “symbiote” synonymous with jerk. [Deviant Art]

Whoever said “magic isn’t sexy” obviously never saw what deviant artist Genzoman did with Harry Potter‘s Ginny Weasley. You can’t say we’re being dirty though, as we are basing this claim -and crossing our finger - on the fact that this Weasley is 18 at the time. Hell, Bonnie Wright, the actress who played Ginny was born in 1991 and that makes her 21 now, so any future comments we make are totally fair. [Deviant Art]

That awkward moment when you have to tell the rest of the team. [Comic Cool]

The legendary Nerdist‘s All-star Celebrity Bowling game – Team Nerdist vs. Team Doctor Who. Yes, Chris Hardwick and his band of Nerds against Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and Steven Moffat as rendered by Namberjams. Extra points for having Wil Wheaton‘s “Wesley Crushers” on the back of his uniform. That’s dedication. [NAMBERJAMS]

Bulbasuar might look like he’s a bit too much weed killer, but this is actually the first in a long line of redesigns by Vaughn Pinpin. Pinpin plans on styling every first generation Pokemon in the style of a Tim Burton character. ‘Cause… you known, we all wondered what that would look like. [Kotaku]

One of the most underrated villains in the DC universe, Mr. Freeze is one of the few who actually didn’t become evil for the sake of evil, he did it to save his frozen wife. Still doesn’t mean he can’t have one bad ass stare in the hands of Vablo, who crafted this cold hearted stare for the man of ice. [Deviant Art]

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars was mixed with the X-men thanks to the twisted, but brilliant mind of Arzeno. Gambit as Han, Rogue as Leia, Beast is freaking Chewbacca for crying out loud! [The Mary Sue]

Oh no! It’s a monster, holding another monster, but Scott Blair makes both Cylon and Number 6 look perfect for the monster/damsel in distress part. If we didn’t know she was a heartless killing machine we might feel bad. [Scott Blair]

Some villains are scary, but what the BBC has been able to do with the villains of Doctor Who makes them absolutely terrifying. So when Ultimate Comics’ releases their new IDW series Doctor Who Carnival of Monsters they called upon cpwilsoniii to do this kick ass variant cover. Featuring several of the Doctor’s past and present foes, this cover could one day be a part of your collection, but keep a companion beside you just in case. [GeekTyrant]

Robert Shane put together this kick ass “what if” scenario of Darth Vader encountering an Alien queen. I’m putting my money on the shiny black one. [LAZORZ]

Title for J.J. Abram’s ‘Star Trek’ Sequel Revealed?

With today being the 46th year anniversary of Star Trek (*blowing on my kazoo*), I just knew some news regarding J.J. Abram‘s Trek sequel was going to be unleashed. And it has, just not officially. According to Comingsoon.net the sequels title has been revealed. Kirk and crew are going to need some friggin’ flash lights, because the title is -apparently- being named: Star Trek Into Darkness.

This news does not come from Abrams, the cast or anyone at Paramount Studios. Nope, just some good ole’ domain snooping. Comingsoon.net found two domain names that were registered yesterday through Markmonitor. Which is an anonymous domain registry service that has been used by Paramount Pictures in the past for recent URLs like their official G.I. Joe: Retaliation site. Those new Star Trek domain names include www.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie.

So, again, this is not official. However, Star Trek Into Darkness seems an apt name, considering the dark tones actors Chris Pine had said the film was going to have. He told Total Film in a recent interview:

There's comedy, which I think J.J. does a great job of, but, like the first one, there's some serious issues being dealt with. And I'd say the threat is even greater in this one.

The force [the Enterprise crew] are met with is much more frightening. It's relentlessly action-packed and in terms of character development it goes places you'd never expect. The arc is huge for all the characters. It's a really big story-I can't hype it enough!

For me, I just hope all this darkness talk is a hint that the solar or lens flare problem has been corrected. *derp*

Star Trek 2 will star Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller with a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Damon Lindelof and that it will hit theaters on May 17, 2013 in 2D, 3D theaters and IMAX 3D versions.

James Cameron Reviews ‘Prometheus’ & Talks About How He Almost Directed ‘Jurassic Park’

The “go to” guy of Hollywood, James Cameron is a director who can do know wrong. He could film a reboot of the worst movie on the planet – that sickly horrible film that is Troll 2 – and turn it into a feature film capable of winning Best Picture at next year’s Oscars. But I digress, Cameron, with his many years of experience has a keen eye for feature films and strong opinions of those directed by other. So how does he feel about Prometheus?

With his directorial work on Aliens, Cameron was the first director to take over the Alien franchise after the departure of director and creator Ridley Scott. So go figure, Cameron has something to say about the creator returning to the Alien franchise. In a recent chat with Moviefone, Cameron said,

I enjoyed Prometheus; I thought it was great. I thought it was Ridley returning to science fiction with gusto, with great tactical performance, beautiful photography, great native 3D. There might have been a few things that I would have done differently, but that's not the point, you could say that about any movie.

Turns out Cameron enjoyed the flick so much he watched it twice!

Oh, yeah. I'm a huge movie fan. I love watching films. I love watching films with the family, with the kids; I love watching films myself. I was out there opening night [for] Prometheus. I didn’t go to the Thursday midnight screening, but I was there Friday. I like to still get excited about movies and whether they pay off or not, that's not the point - the fact that there's still an excitement around a new movie, about the an unveiling of a new movie....Prometheus is a film I saw twice, and I thought about it ahead of time. The first time I would just enjoy it, go for the ride, not be too analytical and the second time I would allow myself to be a little more analytical about, you know, where the lights were and how they lit the shots with all the people in the helmets, how they probably had to do CG faceplates like we did on Avatar, things like that. But, sometimes, so that I preserve a fun, fan-like viewing experience, I won't get into that level. I'll just go for the ride, like, consciously.

Speaking of going for a ride, in a quote from the Huffington Post Cameron briefly touched on how he at one time almost purchased the rights to Jurassic Park before Steven Spielberg. And just like his films today, Jurassic Park would have included aliens,

I tried to buy the book rights and [Spielberg] beat me to it by a few hours. But when I saw the film, I realized that I was not the right person to make the film, he was. Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been Aliens with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair. Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded for that. His sensibility was right for that film, I'd have gone further, nastier, much nastier.

Imagine how different that movie would have been if Spielberg hadn’t gotten the rights before Cameron. Yeah, we’re shuddering at the thought of it, too.

Touhou Project: Yakumo Yukari

touhou project cosplay - yakumo yukari from japan comiket 82

Known as the Youkai of Boundaries, Yakumo Yukari was first introduced in Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom as the sleepy mistress of Yakumo Ran. She lives a very youkai way of life and tends to sleep all day, living for the enjoyment of life. Although she rarely leaves her house, she is quite well-connected, acquainted with the most powerful of youkai as well as those who have anything to do with the Hakurei border or outside Gensokyo.

Another cute cosplayer from Japan Comiket 82! I have to say, every year there's always a lot of cosplayers from Touhou in Comiket. Maybe I should check it out for myself. Thanks again to 2chmod for sending this in!

About Damn Time: ‘A Knights Tale’ Being Developed For TV

Yes, I said it. It is about damn time someone adapted A Knight’s Tale for TV. The 2001 guitar rock driven, Mountain Dew spewing anachronism about a peasant (Heath Ledger) who fakes being a knight so that he can compete in jousting (the medieval extreme sport) and win the favor of a lady or win a bunch of money or save an orphanage or something… The movie wasn’t really deep on plot. Yes, it was a bad movie, but it was fun-bad. I hated it in theaters and now love catching it on cable when I am hungover on a Sunday.

Deadline is reporting that ABC has picked up a TV show based on the movie from Sony with Ron Moore (Battlestar Galactica) to write. Expected to hug closely to what made the movie a box office success, it will undoubtedly be filled with power cords on guitars and be in no way shape or form even remotely be historically accurate.

And that is OK. No word on when A Knight’s Tale will see the light of day on TV, but I do look forward to watching it on weeknights when I am hungover.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Producer Clark Spencer Spills The Beans On Skrillex Cameo

Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph is quickly becoming the animated movie to see this November. With stars like John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, and Sarah Silverman voicing the characters, this movie is sure to please kids, their parents, and gaming fanatics like myself. The attention to detail shown so far in the trailer and clips has been incredible.Producer Clark Spencer sat down with Sam Ashurst of Total Film to talk about the project how the project was able to get the rights to use all of our favorite video game characters that belonged to a myriad of competing video gaming companies.

“It was interesting part of the process, we talked early on about making the film authentic and the only way to do that was to have real game characters in the film as well as the characters we’d created, otherwise it would fell like an artificial environment.

But when you do that, you don’t know the reality of what characters you’re going to be able to license for the film.

Rich [Moore, director] and I went to E3, and pitched the movie to all the different game companies, talking about the concept.

What was great about that was we developed a one-on-one relationship [with the people at the game companies], and people warmed to the idea.

So they felt like it could be something interesting, but they were still a little skeptical, as they were giving their own creative characters over to Wreck-It Ralph.

And so we said we’d keep them involved in the process, and give them the script pages. We showed them the models, we showed them the early animation tests, and even the final animations.

We brought them along the entire way, and it made companies willing to participate, because they felt like we were going to be true to their characters.

As a result we got pretty much almost anything we wanted, because the companies started feeling the momentum and everybody pretty much said yes to us.”

Getting all those video game companies to agree is an amazing feat in itself, it must have looked like an almost impossible task in the beginning. I’m sure once one company agreed that the others most likely went with it so that their video game characters weren’t excluded from what could be a huge Disney movie blockbuster.

Spencer then went into detail about how specific those video game companies were about the use and appearance of their characters and how the production and animation team worked to include everyone in just about every step of the production.

“The games companies were very specific – there’s a scene in which Bowser drinks a cup of coffee, and they were very specific about how Bowser would drink coffee.

The other thing that was fascinating to me was that all of the companies know how tall their characters are.

There was lots of conversation about which character would be the biggest character in that Bad Anon scene. Even to the specifics of centimeters, but that was helpful, because we wanted it to be authentic.

We had a scene where we wanted the rings to come out of Sonic, and SEGA said the only way that happens is if he falls over, and we didn’t have him fall over in the scene, so we actually went back and re-animated it.”

There will be one HUGE video game character that won’t be making an appearance in Wreck-It Ralph, Mario will be curiously absent. Spencer addressed that issue by saying:

“The hard thing was, we were trying to work out the right way to use a character like Mario. It had to be organic to the film, we didn’t want to just paste him in there.

For Bowser, it made perfect sense for him to be a member of the Bad Anon group. For Mario himself we couldn’t think of the right way to incorporate him into the film, and so we didn’t do it.

Now we get to the human cameo in the film, Skrillex. It was announced at Comic Con that Skrillex would be contributing to the soundtrack for Wreck-T Ralph, but know we also know that Skrillex will be making his animated movie debut as well. When asked about this particular detail Spender said:

“We asked him if we could do it,” Spencer said. “We went to him first and said, ‘Hey, we have this party scene in the world of Fix It Felix Jr, and we have a DJ and we think it would make a nice cameo if we put you into it.’ And he was ecstatic.

We built his model, we put on his look, and we sent it to him to have him give us comments. And he said he would never wear non-black tennis shoes. He said “My tennis shoes will always be black.” So we changed the tennis shoes to black.

You don’t see them in the film, as he’s behind the DJ booth, but they were in the model. He has seen the animation, and he’s very, very excited about it.”

Who wouldn’t want to be in a Disney animated movie? This movie just keeps sounding better and better. The latest trailer is below, check it out.

Next Season We’ll Travel to the Center of the TARDIS on ‘Doctor Who’, Seeing More of it Than Ever Before!

The Doctor and the TARDIS. Their relationship is the beating heart – or is it hearts? – of Doctor Who. Rarely, is there ever one without the other, and for as much as we’ve learned about The Doctor over the show’s almost 50 years we know so little about the TARDIS. Sure, we got some of the best insight ever from Neil Gaiman’s Series 6 episode, “The Doctor’s Wife,” but we don’t really know what it’s like inside the TARDIS, beyond that console room. In the past there have been a few episodes that chose to explore more of the TARDIS. We’ve seen a couple corridors, a few companion bedrooms, and in the ’96 movie we saw the Eye of Harmony, which apparently plays some very important role in the TARDIS’ workings though I don’t think the movie ever made it all that clear.

I know I couldn’t give you a layout or draw you a map of the TARDIS and I don’t think you could either, we’ve just never seen enough of it. Looks like next season that’s all gonna change. The title of Stephen Thompson‘s episode for Series 7: Part 2 is “Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS.” Hmm…wonder where that could take place?

This title matches up with some rumors we heard earlier this year, like when Matt Smith almost let it slip we’d be seeing more of the TARDIS interior during a Q&A before producer Caro Skinner cut him off. And then there was guest star Ashley Walters getting busted for tweeting from the set – a big Doctor Who no-no – who recently told the Radio Times,

…in our episode it’ll be the first time people get to see so much of the TARDIS.

I’m excited for them to spend the majority of an episode inside the TARDIS, exploring. Though I wonder why they must in this episode since it’s clearly nothing something The Doctor and his companions do very often. What reason do you think they’ll be TARDIS-bound next season? What are you expecting to see inside the TARDIS? Have I typed TARDIS enough in this article?

BATMAN WALLPAPERS Extravaganza!!

Yes, I used the word, "Extravaganza!", in the title, ha ha! Actually today is "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday". It's a tradition I started a long time ago because I enjoy making BATMAN Wallpaper Backgrounds but, over the years, it has become way more difficult. Why? Because now there are hundreds of different screen-size resolutions and it's way harder to please everybody. See, a few years ago almost everyone that read this site all, pretty much, had the same size. So, I decided to bring it back today and I'm using 1440 X 900 as the main size because that pleases most people. But, for the few that can't use them, I'm sorry.

Anyways, the first one is sort of a Tribute to 1960's Batman Merchandise and the 2nd Bat-Background uses some cool Fan Art showing a more modern-day version. Oh yeah, last minute I decided to throw-in the one with the stitched mouth. That's the cover to a very recent comic book. Enjoy!
