Alfonso Cuaron’s ‘Gravity’ Gets Second Trailer: Sandra Bullock Suddenly Faces The Emptiness of Space

article-0-19B488FB000005DC-298_634x286

Looks like it's going to be a busy day for Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity. First a clip, now a second trailer along with word that a third trailer/clip will be posted later tonight. The first clip was interesting and full of disastrous-accident action, this second trailer really sinks its teeth into the gut wrenching feeling of isolation Sandra Bullock's character, Dr. Ryan Stone, must be suddenly facing after the accident.

I have to say that while I was on the fence about buying a theater ticket to see this movie before, this trailer has certainly heightened my interest. The good news is that with George Clooney and Sandra Bullock on the ticket it won't be hard to make this a date night movie. Now I just need to find a girl . . .

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Gravity hits theater screens on October 4th.

Poison Ivy is always a popular cosplay choice. This one by Precious is one of the most beautiful I've seen. The wig is especially stunning and took a lot of time - it's 3 wigs sewn together! [Photo: Adam Patrick Murray]

In case you missed this bit of space porn that was floating around the interwebs yesterday, the tiny dot in the above picture is the Earth taken from NASA's Cassini spacecraft near the planet Saturn. Makes you feel really insignificant, doesn't it?

Another Season 4 ‘Game of Thrones’ Role Cast – ‘Rome’s Indira Varma is Ellaria Sand

Indira-Varma

With filming begins for Season 4 of Game of Thrones very soon, the casting announcements just keep rolling out. Especially for all these new Dornish characters we'll be meeting. Book readers, you know what I'm talking about, and now it's time for TV viewers to experience the mixture of excitement and frustration we felt over so many new faces.

Mark Gatiss has been cast in an as-of-yet unknown role (though, I'm thinking it's Doran Martel), Pedro Pascal has already been cast as The Red Viper, and today we learn Indira Varman (Luther, Rome, Torchwood) has scored the role of the Viper's "sexually adventurous paramour," Ellaria Sand. Oooh. Kinky. (Note: Sand, like Snow or Rivers, is the bastards surname of Dorne.)

Not only is Ellaria a fascinating character, but she along with the "Sand Snakes" - the Viper's many bastard daughters who are totally kick-ass and awesome! - will introduce viewers to the feisty women of Dorne. See, down south in Dorne, women are recognized as (almost) equals, unlike the rest of Westoros where the women are constantly fighting injustice. Not that Game of Thrones is lacking in strong, independent women, but let's just say Arya, Yara, and Brienne would be far more welcomed and respected were they Dornish.

Entertainment Weekly, which broke the casting news, also spoke with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and they seem confidant Season 4 will surpass Season 3 in its epic-ness,

We got more action, which is obviously more time consuming. It's a brutal shooting season ahead. But if we can make it through, yeah, I think it's going to surpass season three. The last 3 episodes, there's so many scenes we've been waiting for so long to do. And it just gets more and more fun to write for these characters. After three years of doing it, we have that much more comfort to make everything uncomfortable for them. We're very excited for it.

Me too! It just stinks we've got to wait another eight to nine months before we can see it. Season 4 s cast is really shaping up nicely, and while I'm sad for those we've lost, I couldn't be more pumped for some of these new characters coming our way, are you?

Whedon Promises More Black Widow for Your Buck in ‘Avengers 2′

the_avengers_black_widow-wide

Good news for anyone who's a fan of hot redheads that can kick your ass, because Avengers director Joss Whedon is saying that Black Widow, played by lovely Scarlett Johannson, will have a bigger role in the currently in development Age of Ultron.

"Natasha is a huge part of the sequel because you do want to concentrate on the people who don't have their own franchises," Whedon told MTV News.

Of course, Black Widow is hardly limited to The Avengers films, appearing next in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Whedon is still keen on Widow because of what she represents.

"Although she in 'Cap 2,' [and] she's great. She was the most fun for me because she's not a hero, you know, and it's something that I read-and I feel bad that I can't remember who wrote the book-but it's in one of the books explaining, 'These guys are heroes, you are a spy. It's a different thing-it's a different skill set-and you don't have their moral high ground or any of that good stuff.' And that just makes her so interesting to me. So yeah, the stuff I've got going on with her in the second one is killer."

Whedon has previously said that he'd like to give both Black Widow and Hawkeye some more screen time in Avengers 2, but the question is between Ultron, and the rumored appearance of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, which character or characters will get the short end of the stick in The Avengers sequel? Only time will tell.

What say you Bastards? Looking forward to more ScarJo?

So… They Are Rebooting ‘The Butterfly Effect’ For Some Reason

ashton-kutcher-butterfly-effect

Good news, nobody! FilmEngine and Benderspink planning on rebooting 2004 s The Butterfly Effect. That's right, just a short nine years after the Ashton Kutcher vehicle failed with critics (33% on Rotten Tomatoes) is more than enough time for the idea bankrupt state of Hollywood return to that well.

Variety is reporting that the afore mentioned production companies (who were also responsible for the first one) and one of the original screenwriters will, Eric Bress, will return once again to treat us to their tenuous grasp of chaos theory and time travel paradoxes.

If you haven't seen the original, it's about a boy (Kutcher) who becomes a man that invents time travel, attempts to right wrongs in the past and completely screws everything up. Eventually after that plot piece is retread a few times throughout the movie, you fall asleep on your couch and wake up to see it punches out with a crappy happy ending.

The one saving grace this reboot could have is if the alternate ending is used where the main character travels back to when he was still in utero to commit suicide before he is even born!

Oh, yea... nine year old spoiler alert. Anyway, the movie is actually based around a decent enough sci-fi idea and in all honesty probably isn't as bad as I remember it. Maybe this reboot could correct a past Kutcher caused wrong?

Check Out the Teaser for Neil Gaiman’s Video Game, ‘Wayward Manor’

wayward manor

There are few out there who do not recognize the name of Neil Gaiman, at least when it comes to his Sandman and novel fame. But this guy does a lot more than just these two mediums. He's been involved in movies, done stage work with his lovely wife Amanda Palmer, and now it looks like Gaiman will be making his first foray into the world of video games. Yes, if you've ever wanted to play a Neil Gaiman story, you'll have your chance with Wayward Manor.

Working with video game developers, The Odd Gentlemen, the official description of Wayward Manor is as follows:

Wayward Manor is a puzzle/adventure game hybrid that invites players to solve the mysteries of the mansion any way they choose. You play as a disgruntled ghost, trying to reclaim your house from its newfound owners.

This dysfunctional family of misfits and eccentrics have stifled your power and brought their own abysmal possessions into your humble abode. Each level is a playground for scares where players absorb fear to take back control of the room.

If you want free reign over your mansion once again, you must uncover their deepest anxieties and drive them mad with fear using your wits and their hideous belongings.

And in the following video, Gaiman talks a bit about what to expect from the game and shows off some of the art design:

If you feel like pre-ordering the game and pledging your support to the project, you can head over to their website.
