Darth Vader Makes For An Awesomely Ugly Christmas Sweater

This is what you’ll see all the Sith Grandmas wearing to Christmas dinner. It’s a holiday scene of Darth Vader decorating his X-Wing and TIE Fighter covered tree, complete with Santa hat. He’s even got lightsabers to set it all aglow and a lovely Death Star tree topper. It’s hideous and wonderful all at the same time.

Destiny titbits revealed by Demonware accidentally

Click in the image for the big picture.

It's being hailed as a massive leak but it's not really. It's a post from some dude who works for a firm called Demonware who got to attended Bungie Day and hear all about the new Destiny game.

There's no real specifics here, everything is mentioned in a broad, passing sense.

Still, Bungie will be pissed this kind of thing was disclose, probably in breach of an NDA.

First Peek at the ‘Doctor Who’, Children in Need, Pre-Christmas Special Minisode

Sadly, it’s not a clip, but what kind of clip could we expect for a short minisode that is probably only five minutes in length? No, it’s a promo image you can see above, I suggest you click it to embiggen, but it was released with this short little blurb,

Doctor Who, featuring Matt Smith, will bring viewers an extra special 'prequel' to its Christmas special, with a bespoke storyline made for Children in Need, and an exclusive preview trailer of the Christmas special including the first glimpse of the Doctor with his new companion.

The Doctor Who/Children in Need shorts are something I always look forward to. They’re a little bit of Who to tide you over until the Christmas special, which itself is usually tiding you over until the series returns with a full season. Basically, I can’t get enough Who. And this upcoming minisode, airing Friday, will lead into what will be our first glimpse of The Doctor and his new companion, Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman). Y’know, when she’s not a Dalek.

But going back to that promo image, is that The Doctor’s new wardrobe? It’s seem to match the outfits we’ve seen him filming in, but I wasn’t sure it was a permanent change. Looks a little like the 8th Doctor, Paul McGann’s getup doesn’t it?

For those of us here, on the American side of the pond, you may be wondering when the Christmas special will air? Never fear, BBC America announced today it will air 9pm ET on Christmas Day. They also included this little blurb which tells us next to nothing, but here it is,

Following the epic mid-season finale, the Doctor gets in the holiday spirit in the all-new Christmas special written by lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat (Sherlock). Accompanied by his newest companion, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, the Doctor's latest adventure through space and time sees him once again crossing paths with the homo-reptilian Silurian Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) and her cohort Jenny (Catrin Stewart).

See you all here Friday for the release of the Children in Need minisode!

Paramount Green Lights Joel Silver’s Supernatural Thriller ‘Sanctuary’

Paramount Pictures has given the green light to Joel Silver‘s first project since his exit from Warner Brothers earlier this year, Described as a supernatural thriller, Sanctuary is about a young woman, possessed by demonic forces.

"[The woman] seeks refuge within The Sanctuary, a Vatican-run secret organization that teaches the possessed to channel their inner demon and use its power as a weapon against evil. The flavor is a cross between Wanted and Blade."

Alan Trezza (Don’t worry, I’ve never heard of him either,) wrote the script, and Andrew Rona will co-produce with Silver while Alex Heineman takes the reins as executive producer. There's no word on who will direct, most likely some up and coming horror director.

A Prosthetic Design That’s More Like a Tentacle Than An Arm

Just like every other piece of medical technology, prosthetic limbs are constantly being examined for improvements. Industrial designer Kaylene Kau came up with a new approach to the design for arms and though it doesn’t look natural upon first glance, it makes sense.

The arms are like tentacles; they can curl around objects and pick them up. It means improved dexterity and grip – at least for bigger items – but it’s easy to see that it also less material than most prosthetic limbs. The motor that controls movements is housed in the upper part and cables travel down to the extremities. This streamlining means fewer parts which means the arm is cheaper to product and maintain. That’s a win for everyone. Plus? It looks neat and functional.

Practical as it seems, it hasn’t caught on yet (Kau’s design is from 2010). It might be too out there for those who have suffered limb loss though since it doesn’t exactly blend in. Perhaps having a prosthetic hand like Luke Skywalker would be more preferable.

See more photos of the arms after the break.
