Wondering Which Witch is the Wicked Witch in ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’? It’s [REDACTED]

oz_the_great_and_powerful_wicked_witch

By now you may have already figured out which witch goes green come the end of Oz the Great and Powerful, but it’s a mystery they’re desperately clinging to for the film’s promotion, as you can see in the teaser below. If you’d like to remain unspoiled about whether it’s Rachel Weisz‘s Evanora or Mila Kunis‘ Theodora then wait until Oz releases on March 8th, otherwise check out these pics posted to Comic Forum. They leave no question as to which witch is the Wicked Witch.

Obligatory SPOILER WARNING goes here. Do not continue below the video if you’d like to keep her true identity a secret.

And if you haven’t guess it yet, the next one is a dead giveaway,

wicked-3-600x730

Yup, it’s Mila! Personally, I don’t think it’s that big of surprise. For one, when Kunis was cast a few years back there was nothing hidden about her playing the Wicked Witch. And if you watch those ads they make Weisz’s Evanora seem the likely candidate, which of course means there’s no way she’d be the Wicked Witch.

What do guys think? Predictable or were you genuinely surprised? What do you think of Kunis’ green look?

New ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ Trailer and Poster

jack_the_giant_killer_ver9_xlg

Bryan Singer‘s Jack the Giant Slayer has a new trailer out. This one focuses more attention on the giants and their interaction with the world at large without all the culinary comedy. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still humor in this trailer, it’s just not the slapstick baked in a giant tart kind of humor.

A couple of scenes are down right terrifying. Consider the scene where the guy runs at full speed away from that giant, who then takes three giant steps and snatches the guy up. The big battle scenes also show how much of an advantage the giants have in battle, even against large armies.

Jack the Giant Slayer takes its cues from the "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "Jack the Giant Killer" stories, with Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) playing the farm boy who accidentally plants magical beans given to him by a mysterious magical stranger. This leads to the rekindling of an ancient war between humans and giants.

The cast includes Eleanor Tomlinson (Alice in Wonderland) as the daring, captured princess, Ewan McGregor plays a comically over-confidant knight who seems OK now, but might be annoying in larger doses. Ian McShane (Deadwood, American Horror Story: Asylum) as the crotchety old king with Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) as the king’s scheming advisor.

On the Giant’s side we have the two headed giant General Fallon. The larger head is motion captured by Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), and the smaller head played by John Kassir (Tales from the Crypt).

There’s also a new poster out:

Nerds on the Red Carpet: The ‘Silent Hill: Revelation 3-D’ Premiere

On Wednesday evening we got a chance to attend the Silent Hill: Revelation 3D premiere at the ArcLight in Hollywood, CA. The film is written/directed by Michael J. Bassett (Cinemax’s Strike Back), produced by Samuel Hadida (Resident Evil: Afterlife), and stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Adelaide Clemons (The Great Gatsby), Sean Bean (Missing), and Carrie-Anne Moss (Vegas). The film is the sequel to Silent Hill, and is based on the groundbreaking video game franchise of the same name. The film synopsis states:

Heather Mason (Clemons) and her father (Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.

At the red carpet event before the cast and crew screened the film, I got the opportunity to speak with Harington, Clemons, Hadida, and Bassett about the film. First up, I spoke to Kit Harington about what it was like to be in his first film following the success of the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones, which is also adapted from a previous work. Unlike Thrones, which is based on a best-selling book series by George R. R. Martin, I was curious what the experience was like to film a horror movie based off of a video game. Harington replied:

“I enjoyed them both, you know? I’m not used to working in this sort of industry, so to do anything is very exciting. I’ve always wanted to do a horror movie, so I really enjoyed doing this.”

After Harington finished talking to the press, he went over to the fans who had been waiting for hours just to see him. He then proceeded to take photos, and sign autographs. After I spoke with him, I got the opportunity to talk to the producer Samuel Hadida. Hadida was understandably very excited about the film, and had a lot to say about what fans could expect.

“Silent Hill is very influenced by Jacob’s Ladder.” Adding “We wanted to give you a more detailed version of Silent Hill. We wanted everybody who saw the first movie to be very excited to see their character back in the city of Silent Hill, and to fulfill their recollection of what happened six years later.”

After Hadida, I was lucky to get the chance to hear Adelaide Clemons thoughts on filming Silent Hill. When asked if she had previously done a horror movie, Clemons responded, “I have done several, but not one anyone would have ever seen.” She also thinks fans will find the plot of this film to be very interesting. One of the burning questions was whether or not she ever got scared filming the movie. Clemons said:

“Oh, yes, absolutely! As you will see, the monsters are really graphic, so you can’t help it.”

The last person I was able to talk to was the film’s writer/director Michael J. Bassett. Like Hadida, Bassett is a fan of the horror genre. When asked why he chose to direct the Silent Hill sequel, Bassett replied:

“I just like the horror movies. They’re the ones that I grew up with, you know? No matter what I do in any genre, I don’t know, maybe I’m just a creature kind of guy. If you’re going to make a movie, then make a movie you love.”

Bassett also talked about his upcoming project with David S. Goyer (Man of Steel) titled, Da Vinci’s Demons. It’s a television series that tells the “untold” story of Leonardo Da Vinci that is in the vein of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. He has also just wrapped the Cinemax series, Strike Back.

I wan’t able to screen the film, but from the trailer the special effects look really great. Also, Hadida revealed that there will be more monsters, and action in this film than the first. Also more of Sean Bean! Silent Hill: Revelation 3D opened nationwide today (October 26th).

‘The Last Barfighter’: Win A Fighting Game, Get A Beer

Many of us haven’t stood at an arcade cabinet in years, not because of time constraints but because the only places that still have arcade games are bowling alleys and rest stops on turnpikes. Big Boss Brewing plans to fix that with The Last Barfighter.

We could explain the concept, but this video does it much more justice:

Or if you’re not the visual type, here’s some text from the press release:

Players choose one of five characters representing the five year-round Big Boss brews: Hell’s Belle, Bad Penny, Angry Angel, Blanco Diablo and High Roller. The best player of the three rounds wins, and a sample of beer is automatically dispensed via the Beercade taps.

No word on what happens if the keg is tapped. Presumably you get a free play instead.

The game itself seems pretty straightforward: It’s a Flash fighting game, so really it’s not like we’re talking chess here.

Still, this needs to be installed in every bar in America, and that needs to happen for two reasons. One, it will mean only people very good at fighting games will be allowed to get drunk. Two, it will limit their alcohol intake. Worried about sozzled patrons? Flip a switch and suddenly they’re on the hardest difficulty possible.

Sadly, there are no plans to do this right now: This is a promotional item being taken out on tour.

Thanks to our own Surly Badger for the tip!

New ‘Bioshock Infinite’ Trailer Teases More Of The Mysterious Elizabeth

Following right after the Bioshock Infinite “Alternate History” faux documentary reels Nathan just introduced us to, Irrational Games released a new trailer. Such rapturous bounty. The newest trailer among many, titled “Lamb Of God”, focuses on Elizabeth, the super-powered woman Booker is sent to find in order to wipe out his debts.

While some of the previous Bioshock Infinite trailers tried to play up the fragile, damsel-in-distress angle of Elizabeth, this one points out the obvious fact that a woman with the ability to bend time might just be more badass than the game’s male protagonist. And the whole thing is set to the grinding guitar of “Save My Soul” by Blues Saraceno.

Despite the game’s release being delayed to March 28th, I’m with Dan in being optimistic about it. How many games reference American exceptionalism, objectivist dystopias, and the racism of 1912 America? I mean, besides Q*bert.
