Alex Proyas has mad props from the nerd community for such classics as Dark City and The Crow (and I, Robot if you’re counting, but who does?), but he hasn’t yet gone to the next level and made a TV nerd obsession… Until now.
Proyas is teaming up with Jaime Paglia, co-creator of the long-running Sy-Fy hit Eureka, to create a new series for ABC based on the book trilogy Toxic City from British Fantasy Award- and Bram Stoker Award-winning author Tim Lebbon.
The series is called Evolve, and it will follow a group of ordinary people who sneak back into the quarantined city of Los Angeles two years after a mysterious biological agent is released in the city. What they find there is a city full of people with super-human abilities, and the government has a vested interest in keeping these people trapped in the LA city limits. ABC will likely be prepping Evolve for the 2013/14 TV season.
So the series sounds like a combination of Revolution and The 4400? Could be interesting. What do you Bastards think?

Often heralded as the “American Tolkien,” George R.R. Martin recently sat down with MTV Geek and hashed it out over which of his characters from A Song of Ice and Fire could beat J.R.R. Tolkien‘s characters from the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. It’s GRR vs JRR and features showdowns between Jaime and Aragorn, Smaug and Balerion, Frodo and Tyrion, and of course the Sean Bean round, Ned Stark vs Boromir.
SPOILER WARNING! There are some comments made that could spoil the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Just an FYI.

I like how thoughtful he was with his choices, even after his initial reluctance to play. I’ve got to say I agree with him on each pick, how about you?

Can’t say I didn’t see this coming, but it doesn’t make the news any easier to endure. Due to the exploding careers of its stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, Sherlock won’t be returning any earlier than late 2013, or likely early 2014 for those in the U.S. awaiting PBS’ broadcast.
BBC‘s hit series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s brilliant detective was schedule to begin shooting its third series this coming January, with hopes for a Fall 2013 premiere, but filming has been pushed back to March. It seems Cumberbatch – who can been seen in next year’s Star Trek Into Darkness and heard in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – is expected to begin shooting director Bill Condon's untitled WikiLeaks project soon, and Freeman is expected to be needed for more filming to finish up Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit now that it’s a trilogy, cause y’know, he’s the hobbit.
Add to this how busy series creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss already are, what with that little anniversary happening next year for that silly science fiction, and you can see why Sherlock is being put on the back burner. And after the cliffhanger at the end of Series 2 those few more months of waiting will be a struggle. How will fans cope? Well, there’s always Tumblr. Especially the Johnlock tag.

You may not love My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic or understand the pony craze, but you have to admit that the human interpretations of pony costumes are fun! They’re colorful, snazzy, and make me think of 80s attire. Cosplayers go for everything from full pony suits to tutus to embroidered gym shirts. I love seeing the variety.
See a few more costumes after the break.

Sorry for the misleading headline, but I actually meant that the “Trek trailer before the trailer is being released online tomorrow.”
According to Trek Movie, an pre-trailer trailer will be released online tomorrow, December 6th. Apparently, this one minute teaser will have some footage not in the actually trailer and vice versa.
According to a source, there is overlap in what footage is shown in the two trailers (December 6th online teaser and longer December 14th trailer in theaters), but each also has unique footage as well.
The trailer itself will premiere in front of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and if you make it to an IMAX screening of The Hobbit, you’ll see the full 9-minute prologue for Star Trek Into Darkness.
Obviously, we’ll have the teaser teaser for you here when it’s posted tomorrow.
